Please build me a system...

Maybe I'm missing something but I thought OEM was the same CPU but without the cooler etc which would be ideal as I'll get a different cooler.

The 3 year warranty, the box and intel heatsink are worth the difference, also it adds value to the chip if you decide to sell it on later.

Won't be selling it on as this rig is one for a number of years. My current pc is pretty much only good for the tip if I'm honest. The warranty is attractive but is this affected by overclocking?

Hmm I'll have to look at the difference in price. Stuck on iPad at the moment.

What about the budget graphics mentioned above? Good choice? The price is okay keeping me around £700

but that's a stock vs stock comparison, and that gtx460 is overclocked by ~200mhz, so would match a 6870 i expect.

The 460 wins some, the 6870 others - but the 460 has CUDA support, which may be useful for your editing.

Still put my money on the 6870 as its lead is significant and the overclock on the GTX460 isnt much.

Also Quicksync is a available on the Z77 chipset so that can be used.

Graphics cards cant encode for poop, they should be able to but quality falls through the floor. i7 will do about 20% faster than an i5, you can probably overclock an i5 a bit faster.

Hyperthreading not much use for day to day.

Sldsmkd can you clarify your post? Are you advising against an i5? You can always upgrade but there is always a cash limit as well.

Hes saying get the faster GFX acrd and ignore CUDA support from the Nvidia option.

Get the i5 and overclock it.

Thanks.

Got everything in my basket now and wondering if the noise dampening kits are worth it? Does anyone use them? Swear by them?

good find. looks sleek and has some nice features and works out cheaper than the coolermaster one plus deadening.

Ill go for that thanks again, you are an asset to the site :)
