Please can someone recommend a processor for me?

I am thinking of buying a quad-core processor (with 2.4GHz+ preferably), but I don't know which ones would work with my system.

The reason I want to buy it is to improve FPS in video games such as Modern Warfare 2 and Garry's Mod 10 (when you spawn a lot of NPCs).

My budget is up to £120.

Thank you very much for reading and I hope for some suggestions. :)

Well apparently you can only do Intel Porcessors, which limits this a bit. It is also a Socket LGA775 which rules out any of the i3, i5 or i7s.

To be honest if you are wanting to buy from OCuk there is only 1 choice... :(

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-166-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=567 is the only processor in your price range, unless you want to go 10 pound extra and go for http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-269-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=567

I may be wrong about the information i have shown, feel free to correct me.

Thank you for the recommendations. :)

I will probably buy the Q6600, as my motherboard can unfortunately only do 65nm.

Would I see much of an improvement in high-end video gaming with the Q6600 (without overclocking)?
Would my PSU be good enough for it?

Ah ha! That means I was correct :D I feel happy to help.\

For 95 pounds you can't go wrong really, and the difference between the Q6600 and the Q8300 for 35 pounds is clearly not worth it (in my opinion).

Sorry for th use of "pounds" instead of the symbol, it's an american keyboard and I can't change the dollar to a pound :(

The Q6600 is the better chip anyway

Yes, but would it be worth it?

I don't really want to spend £95 then find that it has not made much difference.

Thank you all for your help so far. :)

No problem. ;)

Your motherboad doesn't support Q8xxx or Q9xxx processors so it's either a Q6660 or a Q6700 anyway.

I knew neither of these things.

I would automatically assume the Q6600 of being worse just for the fact OCuk give hardly any information on it, whilst the Q8300 had quite a lot of info on their sales page. I have never researched Intel Processors.

I did not realise that this mobo did not support Q8+, sorry for reccomending it.

All the suggestions of q6600 so far are good. However, don't expect to be able to overclock it very much (if at all). That mobo is woefully bad with q6600s.

With this in mind you'd be going from a 2.33ghz dual to a 2.4ghz quad. In some games this would be a nice upgrade. Unfortunately, in the majority of titles there would be little if any difference.
