First build this is, please could you just go over my specs and say if you'd do anything differently etc.

Case:
Silverstone SST-FT01B, Mid tower, full Aluminium. Black Chassis

CPU:
Intel Core i7 2700K, 3.5GHz, Quad Core + Hyperthreading, 8MB Cache

Cooler:
Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro BK016 Performance CPU Cooler

Board:
Asus P8Z68-V PRO, Intel Z68 Gen 3

RAM:
8Gb (2x4Gb) Corsair Vengeance LP, DDR3, 1600Mhz

GPU:
1GB EVGA GTX 550 Ti, 981MHz GPU, 192 Cores, 4514MHz GDDR5

SSD:
120Gb OCZ Vertex 3 SSD, 6Gb/s, Read 550MB/s, Write 500MB/s

*Would get two HDDs but as prices are so high I'm sticking in an old 1TB 3gb/s Samsung until things calm down*

PSU:
650W Corsair Enthusiast Series TX

Optical drive:
LG BH10LS30 - 10x Blu-Ray Writer & DVDRW - Retail Box

Win7:
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit, Single, - OEM

I'll need to get some thermal paste and a bracket (I think) for mounting the SSD into that case - is there anything else, such as additional cables?

Thanks.

that seems like a very good spec !
nothing i would personally change....

although, can you stretch to the 2GB version of the 560ti ?

and shouldnt think you will need an extra as the MB will come with sata and if needs be the GPU will come with PCI connectors

Sorry I put the wrong GPU info down, yes was toying with the more expensive one but gotta draw the line somewhere. However I'm open to suggestions!

yes that will be fine. i would strongly recommend the 2GB version though. will be more future as more games are becoming dependand on vram and this would also be useful if you wanted to add more montitors in

So its a GTX560ti you were meant to list? or is a GTX550ti correct? whats the PC used for?

Edit, I found the card, if this PC is for gaming then a these are faster,

EVGA Nvidia 1Gb GeForce GTX 460 SuperClocked Graphics Card
XFX HD 6850 XXX AMD Radeon Graphics Card - 1GB

Want to spend more?

Sorry, just to clarify the GTX550ti is the one I'm going with (for now), I accidently had the GTX560ti in beforehand but edited post.

And yes the subject has a typo...not doing too well tonight.

if you have your heart set on the 550ti then theres nothing else i can suggest for your system

but i would strongly recommend the 560ti 2GB as the 550ti is a pretty slow card comapared to a 6850/70 wich are 15-30 quid more.

Yes was looking at the EVGA you have quoted - would this be any better for general all round use too?

£2 more for the XFX 6850,

This shows roughly where a GTX550ti sits amongst other cards - http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/GeForce_GTX_550_Ti_Cyclone_II/23.html

Yes, just to make it really simple, what is the absolute maximum you can spend on a gfx card? or is gaming just a little part of the usage, hence the i7 2700K?

Absolute max £200. Will be used for occasional gaming but mainly video, photo, music and day to day use - wont be on 24/7 but on lots as we'll all be using it when we can! Unlikely to get any big upgrades so looking to invest what I can now.

1GB Asus GTX 560 Ti DirectCU II, 40nm, 4000MHz GDDR5, GPU 830MHz, Shader 1660MHz, 384 Cores, mHDM

2GB Gainward GTX 560 40nm, 4008MHz GDDR5, GPU 810MHz, Shader 1620MHz, 336 Cores, 2 x DVI, DSub, HDMI

I've got a EVGA 460 SuperClocked, it runs like a dream, super quiet and overclocks like a dream. And, EVGA don't care if you remove the casing aslong as there is no damage :)

Thanks for the advice so far, may as well spend more on GPU so look at suggestions later.
One or two questions:
Can I easily get a USB3 front connector, i.e. one that will go under DVD tray on front of the tower? The case I've quoted has USB2 on the top but would like some/one 3 at the front. Looked at other cases but I'm quite fussy, no windows and plain looking so gone for the one above.

And what are the real benefits of the i7 2700k to i7 2600k? From what I've read if you're into gaming then go with i5, I'll be into a bit of gaming.

In addition to the above questions, if I were to get two HDDs now with my set-up, should I raid WD black or green? I notice they do a few but not sure which would be best with a SSD arrangement.

Thanks.

Silverstone do bay devices that should be a nice match for the case http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=275&area=en And a 3.5" to 5.25" adapter as the case doesnt have any external 3.5" bays - http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=272&area=en

The i7 2700K is just 100MHz faster than the i7 2600K, thats it.

For gaming a i5 2500K is as fast as a i7 2600K - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/288?vs=287

if your current 1tb drive is sata just stick to getting the ssd, get the hard disk/s if needed after the prices come back down. if the money is burning a hole in your pocket put it towards a larger capacity ssd or better graphics card.
