Sorry it looks bit messy, just copied and pasted my basket, hope it can be made out.

I already have a MSI GTX460 and I'm upgrading my C2Duo e6750 so hopefully a good upgrade to last a while for the cash (ouch my wallet). Already have a 1TB F3 so will put most games I don't play as often on there. Also hope to OC i5 to over 4.0ghz

Looks a solid build. Just a few minor things really - you could opt for the OEM version of the i5 2500k to save yourself a couple of quid. The only difference is that it comes without a cooler but you have the Gelid Tranquilo so you won't be using the stock one anyway. Also, check if you need to use low profile RAM with the Gelid Cooler. Some tall RAM modules have been known to interfere with larger coolers. There is a low profile variant of the Vengeance brand called Vengeance LP or something along those lines. Other than that, it looks great and should be a vast improvement over your C2D setup.

Fair points, but as well as losing the cooler getting OEM you also only get 1 yr vs 3 yr warranty, IMO its worth the few quid. The Tranquilo will be fine, you may have to use the further RAM slots but as long as you have no plans to use all 4 DIMMs youll rarely run into problems

Good shout, didn't notice this, definitely worth the extra fiver in that case - although I'm sure overclocking technically voids the warranty ;)

Yeah, having a quick look at the memory, people do state they can interfere with coolers. Does having memory in the far slots make no difference as apposed to the front ones?

Heard the vengeance are liked by sandy bridge as they run at 1.5 but XMS3 (other cosair I had looked at) needs 1.65v which is bit higher. I looked at corsair first due to having good past RMA when they have failed and lifetime warranty. Though did look at G.skill Ripjaw. Suppose the last part is getting the memory right as will be a hassle RMA'ing with my work commitments.

Preferably I'd like to have all four spare as you never know if ya need to go to 16gb in future. Hopefully by luck someone with similar build may know how far over this cooler goes on this motherboard!? ;0)

from what i understand, yes, it technically does, but unless you fry your chip, most places are willing to overlook that if there is an unrelated issue :)

I'd imagine it would also be pretty hard to tell if a chip has been overclocked unless, like you said, you fry the thing! What they don't know won't hurt them ;)

To the OP, as far as I know the 1600MHz XMS3 stuff is compatible with SandyBridge chips. It does say on the OcUK page that it's compatible - I think it must be able to operate at 1.5V. A couple of people on the review page also say that they have them running in a Sandybridge system. I've seen the low profile stuff on sale elsewhere, I would have though OcUK would have some in stock.

EDIT: This is the stuff but they only have it in 8GB in white!

Yeah, just want everything to go smooth when it arrives :0) The vengeance are supposed to be hand picked and tested for over clocking and XMS3 more of a generic standard.
The G.skill RipJaws are £49.99 for the 2x4gb, but can't work out how high they are. Shame height dimensions aren't given on memory so that it saves on RMA's, would prob be a good idea to have it added on the specs.

Low profile memory would guarantee all slots, but trying to work out memory just as good. (read one comment where someone had moved from XMS3 to Vengence and noticed better performance in Crysis, but that's just one person)

I have Ripjaws in my current rig and haven't had any trouble with them at all. I bought them 2 years ago when they were a lot cheaper than the Corsair offerings. I paid £70 for 4GB at the time! Still makes me ill! Anyway, the heatspreaders on the standard Ripjaws aren't very tall at all so I doubt they would get in the way of any cooler.

I seriously doubt anyone noticed better performance in a game changing from one memory type to another, it has very little effect
If youre happy to move away from Corsair and want to be safe, the look at teh Crucial Ballistix Sport or Kingston Hyper X, alternatively the XMS3 is rated from 1.55 up to 1.65

Yeah it's £49.99 for 8th now (2x4gb)

I remember getting 2 x 1gb of corsair (can't remember version but were silver) and they were £160......ouch! Though memory drops so drastically DDR3 was ridiculous when that came out first, as was DDR2.

Getting bit late now, so will look further tomora and got until 4:30pm to order for Tuesday delivery, but looks as though once memory decision made all is good.

just a word of warning, the price of the ssd will go up in the morning(not sure what time) as its a weekend only deal

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18337609

you could always get http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-005-AN&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=1395 would solve the ram issue :)

Oh, damn, was hoping to sleep on the decision...grrrr! Already gone to quite an amount now. Shame it isn't free delivery, as could have got SSD and had an extra half day to decide on rest :0( Though if not decided tonight it's £145 elsewhere with free delivery so may have to just take that out of basket.

It is prob now between the G.skill Ripjaw or the White vengeance Low Profile that someone else posted on here. Though with them being an extra £20 if I added that to my cooling fan could maybe get the water-cooled H60 with the normal Vengence.

Man this is confusing my brain lol,
H60 with Vengence £104
Tranquillo with G.Skill RipJaw £76
Tranquilo with Vengence Low Profile (these 1.35v not sure if that's better than 1.5 of normal Vengence) £86

**EDIT** sorry mate didn't realise the H20 you listed was only £40 so with vengeance £83 which puts all 3 options very close together!? Hmmm

the antech kuhler I linked to is £20 cheaper than the corsair, think the performance is on par with the h60.

a lot of people on here have gone for http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-094-KS

Yeah Overclockers seem ton use this ram in their gaming bundles aswell. Just had quick look and seems the one you suggested is a better fit than the H60 on some motherboards aswell.

Guessing that this will replace my 120mm fan that is pushing air out of the case with it's radiator and will be bringing air in. I have a 80mm on front bringing air in and a 80mm on side that could be reversed to push air out, but would this cause heat build up in my machine? Must my MSI GTX460 card has it's own heatsink that blows air in the case and not out.

what case do you have? no roof fans? Could use those to exhaust.

http://www.cluboc.net/reviews/cases/Xion/xion2/2.htm

XION II The PSU is mounted at the top and has 12 cm front intake 12cm back exhaust and a 8cm fan I reversed to be a intake. Just thinking if the back became an intake with front doing so too then the 8th even putting back to exhaust wouldn't be enough with all heat. Unless I'm wrong. No roof exhaust I'm afraid. Case was only about £35 back when I got it.

Thanks for sticking with me on this post, if it wasn't such an expensive choice for me I would have bit the bullet by now, just want everything to be right. thanks for the input, and to those above who have also helped.

All other parts prob happy with just the CPU cooler and memory to sort now.
