I have been asked to provide an upgrade for an older system. We have a decent case, a 620w Corsair PSU and a couple of 1TB HDD already.
The chap is a photographer so needs a speedy quick system which is quiet. Graphics performance isn't the biggest priority.
As well as overclocking the haswell, I've also chosen some nice speedy RAM with Low Latency and a decent SSD to speed things up. His images can be stored on the existing HDDs. The H110 should keep noise down whilst keeping temps down.
As i said, graphics isn't really an issue for a non-gamer but I'm not sure if the HD4600 is up for the job of photo shopping etc.. or if he needs a new discrete GPU. He's currently using a 8800GT.
I've chosen Windows 7 Pro because he doesn't want Windows 8 (fair enough) as he needs a VM as some of his expensive peripherals don't support drivers for windows Vista onward hence the Pro version.
Anyway, here's what i have.
Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail
Crucial M500 240GB SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive - (CT240M500SSD1)
Corsair Vengeance Black 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-14900C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMZ16GX3M2A1866C9)
MSI Z87-G45 Gaming Series Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-Bit - OEM
Corsair Hydro H110 280mm High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (CW-9060014-WW)
Comes to £819 incl VAT and shipping
Any improvements or thoughts?
