I have looked at it that way too but im thinking i am making the wrong decision by not joining, hence me asking in here. The reasons i backed down in those two occasion was - 1, Girllfriend intervened after seeing the death of Kenneth Bigley on a website. 2,Family pressure.

You know as a matter of fact, now i am confused.

I honestly dont know, maybe i have been brainwashed. If i remember correctly, it started after the U.S/UK invasion of Iraq to get rid of Saddam.

I go to gym regularly, and i can run fast and far but dont know how long before i run out of Human shell optimax!

Then you've got to figure out what you want. If you either WANT or DON'T WANT to see action, figure that into which unit you join.

Also, ask yourself how much time you can committ. Specialist ones take up less time than others. Some will put you on adventure training after you have passed basic.

Some have high fitness requirements that you will need to train A LOT to meet.

Or you could go the Potential Officer route and spend your first year with the Training Cell then find a unit after that. I'm not sure abou this option though, I've been digging information on it

And there are also the marines and Navy to consider.
 
Just remember that if you go for an interview, repeat in your head while being interviewed "i am andy Mcnab" and any kind of pictures they show you areof bombs and death :D

Personally I dont fancy risking my life or killing other people for some political reason of a government I didnt vote for. That is more than likely there as a token force to follow undertrained low IQ US Marines around.

If it was a case of defending the realm kill or be killed - absolutley no hesitation. But until that happens absolutly no chance of me being suckered into fighting for Mr Blair/Bush.
 
I'm in the Royal Naval Reserve and it's fantastic. Great second income and you get paid to do some quality stuff.
BUT...there is a very high chance of mobilisation at the moment. When I joined it wasn't very likely but is becoming increasingly so. Just go along to an acquaint night at you local TA unit and see what it's like.
 
that you are posting here asking for convincing seems a good indication not to join the S.A.S (saturdays & sundays) squad.theres many more things you can do to get out more without becoming a weekend warrior,take up a hobby that will take you different places such a scubadiving or summat :D
 
Although this is a thread for posting reasons not to join the TA, here is my rant.

Obviously everybody posting carp about the armed forces are a bunch of pansies. They are the type of people who I wouldn't like to see go and do a man's job. I actually think women do a better job than what some of the males in here could do, and they have more *****. I think the armed forces deserve a lot of respect for what they do; from infantry putting their lives at risk on a daily basis to the medical staff struggling to keep our people alive. (Note, it is note always like this! ;))

I say join, some people don't know how the armed forces appeals to them. But if this is you, join and you will not regret it. If you like it you can always try and become an Officer out of it.
 
Sounds like you just want to go and do something rather than be couped up. Why not go back packing across South America or something. You'd get out, have lots of experiences which you choose (rather than someone else) and you can quit at a moments notice. You can put yourself through as much or as little as you like then.

Are you prepared to be mobilised to a war zone?
Would you be prepared to do this even if it did not fit in with some of your personal and political beliefs?
Do you think that you would be truly prepared to risk your life for others?

When it comes to that, i dont have a conscience

I have done it before but not in an instance of going to war.
 
To be honest I don't think it is the right thing for you. Both from your previous posts and for your reasons of wanting to join. I'm not sure your answers are very reassuting either. Perhaps you should go along and speak to the TA themselves.
 
To be honest I don't see more and more people don't join the TA, if I was British my first thing after going to uni would be to join the TA. First of you do get a lot of economic advantages, no need to worry about your student loan, etc. plus you get to do something for you country.
 
Im confused :confused: A lot of peoples replies seem to imply its a full time job.

You dont get paid very much and once you have done the basic training you'll only do anything with them every other weekend and a few week trips per year. Yes you can be mobilised but to be honest most of the non specialists (ie basic infantrymen) aren't mobilised much whatsoever.


If you feel like joining go for it! Go and have a talk with some people from the TA and decide from there.

I dont understand why people keep making reference to my previous post as a yardstick for me not being ready :confused:
