'Please do the needful'

I get it all the time. I'm a particular fan of the full version - "Please do the needful for the upgradation of the..."

I've heard some funky English but I generally don't latch on to any of it. I appreciate people who take the time to learn a language, even if it turns out a bit commedy like. :)

I must sound pretty ropey in Gaelic, French and Spanish to be honest with you.

Always used to get this from the guys overseas. "Please do the needful" and then call me by my second name all the time :\

Yep, for some reason they can't quite work out that Outlook is Surname, Firstname, we even get it sometime where they call you the correct thing in one mail but then somehow revert back to the surname later in that same mail trail.

Do the needful is also a running joke - seems to be a standard phrase for Indian IT guys.
