My graphics skill are very bad. Could someone please edit this logo so the background is black instead of red and mabey make the font a little clearer?
Transparent .gifs can't be anti-aliased against any background. He's made that one to look smooth against a white background but it looks choppy on the forum's blue.*
A .png would look nice on any background but IE6 doesn't render them transparent. It adds ugly white boxes where it's supposed to be transparent. Since it's 90% of the browser market one must adapt to it.

GIF images only have a 1-bit alpha channel, meaning a pixel is either completely transparent or completely opaque; no intermediate values can be used. PNGs, however, have an 8-bit alpha channel, meaning you can have 256 levels of transparency.
