Please Help a Newbie - Is My RAM setup incorrectly?

Hi Guys

Apologies for the (probably stupid question) but I'm thinking something may not be set up properly with my RAM.

I have 2 x 4GB sticks of Corsair DDR3 2,133Mhz XMP RAM, however when I test the modules using MemTest, they show as 533Mhz? CPU-Z also says that the frequency is 533Mhz (See shots below)

Is something wrong, or is this normal?

Youll have to go into bios and enable the XMP profile for the ram, this will set the correct speed, timings and voltage. The XMP profile is enabled in the overclocking section of your motherboards bios. The 533 your seeing is what ram is set to by default, 2x 533 ddr =1066mhz, (ddr meaning double data rate).

OK, so I checked, and of course you are right, XMP was disabled.

In the BIOS for XMP I have two options, "Disabled" and "Profile1". When I set to profile1, the multiplier changes to 20.00 (Auto) (I cannot manually amend this setting) - as shown below

However, the PC will not boot if I have Profile1 enabled.

I ran Memtest after the failed boot and saw thousands of errors!

What am I doing wrong?! :confused::(
 
OK, so I've changed the multiplier from 20.00 to 18.00 and now the system will boot.

So this means I am running at 1800Mhz yes? I guess my system can't handle the full 2133Mhz for some reason?
 
It may be that your 3570K isn't up to handling 2133Mhz RAM, the higher kits are generally designed for Haswell due to Ivybridges weaker IMC. :(
 
try without x.m.p just look in the bios for system memory multiplier and set it to manual then set memory frequency to 2133mhz

then look for dram voltage and set that to 1.65v,it should boot then,

make sure your running latest bios aswell

No joy, the highest I can go is 18.66, but that's still a lot better than what it was at before I guess!

Flashing to the latest bios as suggested may help. Or it could be faulty ram, my first 2400mhz kit wouldnt run at that speed under XMP or manual settings. Anything lower was ok though. Had to rma it and get a replacement set.
 
You probably need latest BIOS or beta BIOS with gigabyte my Samsung memory wouldn't go above 1866mhz till newer BIOS,I'm running 2133mhz now on z77

What board are you using?

Could someone give me a brief dummies guide to updating the bios? I keep reading that it should not be undertaken by the inexperienced! I don't want to do anything to mess my system up!
 
Use mem test to check each stick on its own. Maybe one is faulty. Do this with no overclock on CPU at all and Primary timings entered manually.
