Right... I have read all the instructions to get the AHCI mode to work on SATA HDD's and It just refuses to work. I have a samsung HD501IJ http://www.samsung.com/global/busin...=72&type=61&subtype=63&model_cd=257&ppmi=1155.

I have an ASUS Commando, which uses the chipset ICH8R.

I have downloaded the latest drivers to use in the F6 mode and this is what keeps happening.

When I install XP, it locates the correct drivers, however it either does one of two things...

1. Setup could not find any hard drives
2. Setup could not copy **** (AHCI drivers)

On Vista... I just get Setup could not copy **** (AHCI drivers)

I have tried taking out all but one SATA hard drive. I have tried selecting the RAID option instead of AHCI in the BIOS but I get the exact same thing. I have tried using both a floppy disk and a USB drive for Vista and it comes up with the same message each time. I have tried the latest drivers from the intel site as well as the ones that come on the ASUS Commando disk.

NOTHING WORKS!!

please please please help as I am getting so frustrated and nothing I do seems to work. Thanks :)

Yes, it works in IDE mode, I just wanted to switch over to AHCI since I am reinstalling windows. I have tried it in RIAD, but when I install the drivers it still comes up with the message that it can't copy the drivers. I have tried unplugging all but a different drive, same problem, in fact now, its blue screening :S. So I just don't know what to do any more...

I have the latest BIOS
I have tried it on different hard drivers
I have tried use both a floppy and a USB
I have tried resetting the BIOS (clearing the CMOS and resetting to default)
I've tried different drivers
Ive tried XP and Vista

Ive tried EVERYTHING! lol

Is there anything I've missed out or is my motherboard quite simply being a pain in the *** and not letting me install windows with ACHI?

Tried slipstreaming them with nLite?
Sure you have the text mode drivers?

I have no idea what either of these are I'm afraid... lol

Which SATA ports are you using? For some reason known only to Asus themselves SATA ports 3 & 4 can't be used for boot disks.

I have 3 hard drives connected and one sata DVD drive...

Port 1: Samsung 500gb
Port 2: Samsung 80gb
Port 3: Maxtor 250gb
Port 4: DVD drive
