hi guys ive tried my best with my limited knowledge to solve this but now im at my wits end and ready to get the hammer.

an ederly friend gave my kids a old laptop from 2006-2007 but only used it like 20 times lol it still had the cellophane all on it :p specs are as below just incase it helps

toshiba sat p100-240
centrino cpu 1.83
1 gig ram
hardon kardon speakers
seperate geforce 7600 go gfx
intel wireless 3945abg built in

it was upgraded to vista in a shop

i have tried to connect to the internet via firefox and ie but it comes up saying cant connect as no internet connection ?

according to the laptop it is connected to my router and does not diagnose any problems

also it seems to be able to look for windows updates fine ,i have also pinged google from a command prompt and it sends and recieves so it must be connected somehow.

have ran malware bytes and done a clean up
have also installed about 10 different drivers for the wireless card to no joy

i have also connected the laptop to my router via a wired connection and still the same results

i did see odds and sods of leftovers from norton and symantec so i ran the user removal tool STILL NO JOY

also ran spyware search and destroy STILL NO JOY

anyone please help me :(

Either proxy settings or installed Av/'Security' software, no doubt.

McAfee is terrible for breaking and blocking access to the net as is Symantec and co. If neither seems to fix it, rebuild it?

They upgraded to vista but did not provide the COA? (Certificate of Authenticity) Should be stuck onto the system somewhere.

Download ProduKey or Magic Jelly Bean Keyfinder and extract the Vista key from the operating system directly.

At least you have the option to do a nice clean install of Vista.

ProduKey - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html
Magic JellyBean - http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/

yay all sorted

ran the norton sweeper thingy the malware and spybot all again then shut down got hold of a copy of vista

booted from cd and did a repair to put all the proper reg files back in

then d/l service pack 1 so i would not get the old reboot prog and installed

wireless is now all working and everything else

thanks for your help guys just wanna put some more ram in then it will be good to go should hopefully be able to also play a few older games with that 7600go card in it
