This is really doing my head in now. Installed my new Geforce 280 with my new 750W Corsair PSU.
Now I tried to install the 180.63 drivers and they get about havlf way through the install just after the ascreen flashes a few times and I get this message:
Windows Installer
Invalid Command line parameters
Portions of this software are based
in the part of the work of the
independent jpeg group
WTF does that mean?. I get the same message when I try to install from the driver disk provided by BFG.
Anyway, the driver does complete the install eventually but when I reboot I can only get 4bit colour and 640x480 resolution and it will not budge from that. I have no nvdia control panel but it does recognise the geforce 280 with 1024ram ect. Dxdiag.exe also lists the card but I have no D3D acceleration or anything.
I have tried many different nvidia drivers with the same message and it's doing my head in now. I have not changed my system at all since upgrading from my 8800GTX which was perfect apart from the new power supply as I only had a 480w.
I have also re-instaleld windows without any problems but still get the same message when trying to install the drivers. It just reverts from the standard 1024x768 16bit resolution that windows starts up with back to 4bit colour when I try to install any drivers.
Another problem is that the card randomly stops spinning and the screen goes blank but the pc is still on as normal. If I hard reset then it's okay again and boots into windows and may not do it for another hour or so. The card has a green & red light and the red light comes on and the fan stops, it's almost like it goes into standby mode or something. Is this happening because the drivers are not installed and not controlling the card?
What do you think the problem is? I have upgrading for years and have never come across anything like this before, I'm pulling my hair out and just want to use my new card.
Motherboard not compatible but I doubt it (Gigabyte GA965P-D3S)
Power supply but 750w should be fine.
Faulty graphics card?
Many thanks.
