I have just bought an Asus formula rampage x48 m/b from overclockers and on first boot up the LCD Poster that came with the board says cmos error ?

Could it be my memory causing this problem? as i am sure i have read somewhere that someone had to put in slower ram?

Any help would be great thanks...

does it boot at all ? so you can get into BIOS, as for the mmoery it could be try booting it with one stick in, if it does work flash the BIOS, than put in the rest if it still refuses to cooruporate (don't throw it out the window) LOL send it back to overclockers, it might have a corrupted BIOS

Thank you for your quick response AMG,

I put both my graphics cards in and reading some forums seems not the thing to do, now i have both memory modules in and one graphic card and now loading up windows as i type "lets hope all goes well" lol

your welcome. If it works than well problem sorted, but since the cmos IS reponsible for loading the main OS and has control of the system when you first push the button i persome it would be, the little poster helps a lot. but still try booting with basics first, than its trouble shot time :D but my money would be a crouppted BIOS (damm spelling)

You shouldnt really need to flash the BIOS, if you just bought it it should be up to date
That means it should be able to handle the RAM
As you/AMG have said, try with minimum components for first boot (CPU, 1 stick RAM, 1 gfx card), see how that goes
You could try hitting the clr cmos switch, make sure its not accidentally half pressed in or anything like that

Thanks guys,

All working ok now, full install of win XP,all service packs, chipset drivers,ATI 8:12 drivers and sound drivers.

Booted up into windows twice works great, Then i installed the secound graphics card cat driver prompted me to enable Crossfire and now showing two cards:) I am very happy now.

Thanks to all for your help

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU;)

^ iam with 95thrifles what was the problem here as a matter of interest I might get this boared to replace my deing max 2 formaula

Looks like it was the 2 graphic cards put in together without the asus chipset drivers.

Well i think it is  search on web "that issue came up a lot".

Ah, I didnt encounter this myself as when I built my new system the PSU they sent me was faulty so had to RMA and use my old one in mean time which I didnt think would be powerful enough for x-fire so initially I only installed the one gfx card in mine anyway
