Hi all,

Question please, if anyone on here is aware of gumtree and if you can be paid via gumtree would this be correct?

I'm trying to sell a non tech item, there is a person saying they are buying my said item. I've received a link for a payment, the address bar says qumtree.com with the padlock and saying it has a valid certificate.

I'm still wary purely on the basis when it asks for the money transfer electronically, I input my card details and it confirms by saying put in a one time code sent to your phone. I've got the code come through, but something tells me not to confirm because it says pay on the webpage not confirm to receive the money.

Very wary of scams etc.

Anyone advise please if either this is correct or scam?

Ta

That's what I thought guys thanks for clearing that up, it just started to scream scam to me at one point. Now they've said they've organised a courier to collect.

Does it say gumtree or qumtree ?

The link that came through I checked on my iPhone, the padlock was there so there but the address was still Qumtree that's what set alarm bells ringing. Obviously I know of other payment platforms, but never knew of gumtrees own version which again sets off alarm bells.

Not sure why the link says confirm payment, rather than receive payment. Still sounds like a scam to me, nice to have others on here confirm my suspicions.

Thanks everyone for confirmation it’s a scam, they just provided a postcode but that doesn’t match to the place they say it’s to be sent to.
Thanks again guys.

As a note, lock icon means it has a HTTPS certificate. Anyone can buy one of these. It takes time to be noticed and revoked if a scam, so don't automatically believe it. If the address is "clearly" wrong then it is a scam.

Cash on collection - NOTHING ELSE with Gumtree.

No couriers, family members, escrow, paypal, gumtree courier etc etc.

It's very simple - Cash only on collection

You actually put your card details into the scam site?

You might want to be calling your bank and getting the card cancelled/renewed if i'm reading that right.

I input my card details

Phone your bank and get them to put a stop on your card NOW.

Ignoring than the fact the url you have pasted is "Qumtree", there shouldn't be any reason for you to enter your card details if you are the seller, if you've also entered the 3 digit security code from the back of the card then they have everything they need to use it online (assuming they have your name & address/postcode from "arranging collection"?)

I know, I just kept questioning it all and going over the same thing again. Hence why I asked on here.
