Hi everyone and Happy New Year :D

Im not very good at explaining but here goes so please forgive me in advance for anything that dosent make sense or if i've missed anything out.
Im running an i7 920 D0 at STOCK (low elec consumption) with Corsair H50 push/pull (not good at overclocking but overclocked to 4ghz with HT on but needed over 1.4v even with HT off but temps were 76deg under prime 12hr test), Asus Rampage II Extreme, 6gig Corsair XMS3 1600 cl8, Intel Extreme Performance 160gig ssd drive, GTX480 etc. Everything was running great on stock settings but all of a sudden my pc's gone slow. Just launching the internet is slow, nero vision is slow, playing a movie of my other hard drive is slow, encoding is slow - basically its like my last old pc. All my drivers are up to date.

Please could some advice me what might be the problem.

Many Thanx and Kind Regards

1.4v for cpu or qpi/vtt(imc voltage)? try removing mb battery, leave out overnight and then put in and load optimized defaults in the bios, then re-enter your bios settings

Have you done a scan for virus'es. And are you currently running the system at stock or overclocked? And how old is your installation of windows?

EDIT:1.4v does seem extremely high for vcore on an i7 920 DO.

Ok, will try that wazza 300, much appreciated. That 1.4v was for the cpu and i 'think' my qpi was at 1.35 or 1.28 or in between. I've got a really bad chip in overclocking but in reality i really dont mind as i leave it on stock so it consumes less electric.

Thanks again

ps to readers, i've also ran malware, spyware, virus scans and everything running ok with some tracking cookies removed.

Hi setter, I was just typing in the other post that i've ran malware, spyware, virus scans and everything running ok with some tracking cookies removed.
Running Windows 7 Ultimate with all updates up to date.

CPU is running at stock clocks to consume less elec and yes the chip i've got is really bad or im just an idiot at overclocking lol.

you shouldnt realy need 1.4v for cpu @4ghz esp with ht off,i have two of these chips one is good only needing 1.26v for 4.2ghz but the other needs 1.35v,qpi/vtt can be anything between 1.35v to 1.4v+ you would need to test, plus manually setting up other things like uncore freq and ram speed/timing ect will help, and set cpu core freq and pci-e core freq to 800mv and 900mv will help

Hi wazza, i appreciate your replies. Honestly i've tried everything but either my chip is bad or im just that crap at overclocking which I aint embarraseed to admit lol.

Wazza my icons like when you click 'start - all programs' come up slowly like not 'just there' if you know what i mean and same with when i go into 'my computer' it takes that extra second or 2 for the hard drive and dvd icons to display. Its like im running my old athlon 64 processor again. I've just checked task manager and all cores are running with HT on with 0% load. I just dont understand it?

if you have another ssd or even an old hard drive you should do a fresh winows install to eliminate the possiblity of your os drive being faulty- with an ssd os drive like you have, you should not be having to wait for desktop icons to appear etc- sounds like a drive problem to me :)

you need to fully clear cmos by removing/leaving mb battery out overnight, then start over by loading optimized defaults and see if auto voltages/settings cure the lag,if not it could be not enough qpi/vtt voltage and try manually setting dram bus voltage to whats printed on your ram, iether 1.5v or 1.65v

it should be fast and snappy, even at stock

Hi, @ setter - all drivers are up to date
@ shuzzbutt - do you recommend me formatting? willing to do so as really annoying me,
@ wazza300 - all voltages are on auto except my dram as i've manually set that to 1.65v as stated on the ram sticks.

Thanks everyone

Think you hit the nail on the head here. It definitely sounds like a drive issue, although as shuzzbutt said you'd be better off using a spare HDD if possible and doing a reinstall on there rather than reformatting your current drive. If you reformat it and it doesn't work then it's a bit of a pain in the neck.

Do you have these problems when the system is running at stock or just when overclocked. I haven't read each individual post so I apologise if this has been asked already. As others have said, try resetting to optimised defaults in the BIOS but if this doesn't work then your drive would be the next place I'd be looking. Good luck!

Hi moody89, thanks for you suggestion, everything is running @ stock settings. I've just ran intel ssd drive management and also a hard drive utility and no errors are being reported so that rules out the ssd 'I hope'.

Hi, ive just remembered that when i reinstall windows my D:\ (1TB) drive doesn't pick up so I have to manually go into computer management and assign a hard drive letter to it and the hard drive is gradually becomming noisy (not ticking but is loud when accessing data). Could the hard drive be an issue for it running slow?

Thankyou everyone

Hmm I've had this problem when overclocking, even if you're Prime stable but it happens until you increase or decrease the BCLK by 1 which fixes it. This doesn't explain why it happens on stock though.

Remove that drive and see if it helps
