Hi all, my wife's birthday is coming up and I was thinking of getting her a laptop so she will stop hogging my own pc.:D

I've never really paid any attention to laptops before so I'm not really sure what I should go for, a Sony Vaio, Dell, Toshiba?

I'm thinking of spending around 900-1200 Euro, if I can get something good for less then that wouldn't be a problem.;)

Anyways, it has to be powerful enough so when I get my hands on it it will satisfy me as well :D .
Do you think a 14-15 inch screen is enough or is 17 better?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

On the screen size front then it depends on what she will be doing with it i would personally go for a 15 inch display as it combines portablity with still a good size screen. In terms of the laptop itself i would go with either dell or toshiba

Thanks Mic, do you think the Vaio's are overpriced or just not as good as Dell and Toshiba?

She'll be mainly using it for the internet and some photoshop.
Thanks again.

For sony's name you will pay a bit more extra compared to other rivals with similar specs, some laptops that might be worth a look are dell's xps line, dell's studio 15 line or toshiba's satellite a300 range. hope this helps

Dell's Studio line is worth a look, they have various colour and pattern choices available too which may appeal.

If she'd fancy something a bit smaller, the XPS M1330 is also worth checking out. It's a 13", so it's a nice size for just sitting with on your lap or anything like that.

I had a look at the Dell Studio 17, it looks quite nice. Any idea how long Dell takes to deliver? I need it by next sunday.....I know I left it too late!;)

P.S. Any HP models worth having a look at?

I don't know how long it takes dell to deliver it as it goes through stages: from your payment clearing to manufacturing it to getting ready to send it out, Also Hp models are quite good i think, haven't had any so i can't tell you from experience

Remember to stay well away from anything with an nvidia 8 series GPU as they have a very high failure rate.
