Hi guys.

I've currently got a Hyundai ImageQuest Q995 19" CRT, the display is fantastic and there really isn't anything wrong with the monitor at all.

However, I still for some reason have a strong urge to upgrade it. I'm currently toying with the idea of purchasing a 19" widescreen to go alongside my current monitor, so I can use my old 19" CRT for playing movies etc, or maybe for running a game on one screen whilst still having access to the internet etc on the other.

But then I think about it a little, and if I'm in a full game I'm not sure I want the distractions, and if I'm watching a TV episode on my computer I can just as easily do what I do now and watch it in a borderless MPC window, which again lets me quickly change between what I'm doing and watching the video since it's all on one screen, so I'm also considering just ditching my current monitor and just getting a 20-22" widescreen.

Or of course I can keep my current set-up for a little bit, and then just upgrade my current PC (AMD 2500+, 1GB DDR, Asus V9999 6800) and monitors at the same time.

Just wondering what you guys think would be the best solution? Thank you! :-)

Its seems that every other post here is about someone wanting a recommendation for a new monitor.

Every time I think that I have found what monitor to buy another one pops up and I am back to square one.

Can we not get someone from overclockers that have access to these monitors, give us a top 3 20" and top 3 22". I now that you are pretty busy but it probaly would help a lot of people.

Cheers

Agreed, that would be helpful. I'm pulling my hair out at what to buy. I'm sure when i was looking for advice for which GFX card to buy there was a thread over at the Graphics Card Forum listing the best possible options in accordance with budgets. I don't think it's as simple with monitors as different people have different requirements so recommending the best possible 19" WS monitor with the fastest possible response times might be suitable for a gamer but not necessarily for someone wanting to do photo editing.

I'm not looking for anything indepth.

Just a quick pointer, with one or two pros & cons.

I have been looking at these.

Asus MW221U 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Silver/Black - £281
Belinea 2225S1W 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black/Silver - £234
Samsung SM-215TW 21" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Silver/Black - £352

Asus VW192S 19" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black - £140 (would leave a bit to get me an Xbox)

Many thanks for the replies guys, I'm not really after monitor recommendations though; just wondering what kind of setup would be best for me! :)

Cheers

i've just got the nec 20' widescreen.... a bit pricey but an amazing monitor for gaming none the less, a lot of people are saying the belinea's are very good for the price perhaps you should consider one of them?

You mean what components to upgrade? All depends on your budget. How much wonga you got?

On the monitor note, the Hyundai ImageQuest N91W 19" Widescreen is supposed to be excellent, although at 19" maybe that's not big enough for you.

:)

top 20" models:
Belinea 102035W 20.1" (Viewsonic Vx2025 uses same panel so is similar)

Dell Ultrasharp 2007WFP

NEC MultiSync® LCD20WGX2 20.1" (best for games)

Worth considering if you want larger than 20" but don't want tn film panels, which can be noisy in films etc is the
Samsung SM-215TW 21"

Just my opinion but those are probably the best tfts atm, (not counting the 22"), I can recommend the belinea as I have just go one and I have no problems with it.

edit just saw you don't want monitor recommendations...

To be honest, I can spend any amount on it really if it's worth it, but since I'm a bit of a cheapskate I guess I want the best 'value' possible :)

Thanks again for the monitor recommendations all, like I said, I'm not really after them as such, but at least if/when I make a decision on what setup to get I'll have lots of lovely monitors to look through!

My most recent concern (yes, another) regarding a dual screen set-up is I wouldn't find anything useful apart from watching TV episodes etc, and even then it's very often something with subtitles and I'd much prefer to have that on the same screen so it's easier to concentrate on it as well as something else.

As a result, I'm currently toying with the idea of getting a 22" monitor and running it alongside my current 19" CRT; I'm under the impression they're the same height so this could be a good solution?
