Hi guys,

I am very new to overclocking but would like to bump my CPU up a bit to save time encoding video.

I have an AMD X2 4400+, Ninja HSF, Dfi CFX3200 Mobo, 2gb (2x1gb) Corsair XMS3500 Pro XL

I had a go playing with the bios lastnight but whatever I tried the pc refused to boot

It would be ideal if I could match FX speeds but not sure if i'm asking a bit much?

I have searched numerous forums including this one and also read some guides but nothing seems to match the settings I have in the bios. Most guides are too old now to be of any use

Some pointers would be brilliant please :-)

Get stability testing software - e.g. Prime95 and SuperPi. When testing, run two instances to fully load the chip. Download CPUZ.

1 - Put the HT Multi (maybe called LDT Multi) to 4x (maybe 800). This will default to 5x (1000) normally.
2 - Lower the Memclock value (the RAM multiplier) to 166MHz. This will default to 200 (a 1:1 RAM:FSB ratio). This is putting divider on your RAM.
3 - Raise the FSB in increments of 20. Stability test. If it fails at any point, raise the VCore (up can go up to 1.5 easily if needed). When you don't want to go any further / it isn't stable, drop back and use smaller increments.

Watch your temps - getting over 50C is too hot for the CPU. If you get over a FSB of 250, lower the HT Multi to 3x. If you get over about 220 MHz for the RAM speed in the memory tab of CPUZ, lower the memclock value.

That should be it. Ask any questions before you start if that isn't clear. :)

// EDIT // This chip is easily capable of 2400MHz on stock volts, so you may want to jump to FSB of 240 straight after step 2. You can then do step 3, but this will save you some time.

ok done a bit of overclocking now.

Managed to get 222FSB, 166mhz, 4x HT to boot into windows and stress tested ok.

These are my settings. Can you please tell me where to go next for extra speed :-) Thanks!

mate i had the same probs with my 4600 when pushin 2.6+ did everything that a.n. other told you. to get mine to 2.6 before i got my new board i had volts at 1.400 fsb at x3, cpu multi at 12 and ram at 166.

what teps is every one getting as i have got watercooling but i want to get into overclocking to give my sli setup bit more

I'm happy at FX60 speeds but would like a little bit more :-)

My system sounded like it was on the verge at booting at FSB250 so I'm going to put the volts to 1.525 tonight and see if it's ok.

Doubt I'll hit FX62 speeds :-(

Well I have no experience clocking the 4400+, but I've clocked a few 3800+s and I'm surprised that you are getting stuck so soon tbh. The 3800+ can do 2000-2800 on air and up to about 3300 on phase change.

Nevertheless, you're getting some good clocks.

This is a strange one

My mate has a proper FX60 and gets 28secs on superPi. When I try it with my 2.64mhz overclock I get 33secs. Surely mine should be faster?

I dont think they are either :D thats a good overclock on a nice voltage :o im jealous

Because your timings are ****.

2.5-3-2-5-7-13 using a 180 divider and 2.9V should be fine.

CR.
