Ok so, i have purchased all the seperate componants for a pc as I am building my own system; the problem is that it simply will not turn on. I have given it the once over countless times, removing all the leads and starting from scratch, but it simply wont turn on. I have the leads from the case for the power switch plugged into the motherboard but it will not do anything.

Here is a list of all the componants I have, from what I know i think they are all compatable:

CIT 1107 uATX TWR CASE 500W - This is the case plus the power supply that came with it
Intel Core i5 750 2.66G s1156 - CPU
GIGABYTE H55M-S2H MOBO - MOTHERBOARD
Hynix 2GB (2x1GB) DDRIII PC3-8 - RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4670 - GFX CARD

I would really appreciate it if someone could get back to me on this, like i said everything is plugged in/attatched. And i dont think the power supply is the problem as when I switch it off it makes a power down sound. But yeh, my guess is the power switch, maybe im just missing something, but everything is plugged in according to the manual, I would really appreciate feedback. thankyou.

Are you getting any signs of life at all, is there any sort of power indicator on the motherboard for example (a lot have a little standby light near one of the PCI slots), or do the fans judder at all when you press the power button/turn it on at the mains.

If you've checked all the connections, but suspect the power button the easy option is to swap the bower button for the reset button (just swap the cables connected to the motherboard over for those two), as they are exactly the same same type of switch and connection so it's the easiest way to check :)

+1 on swapping the power switch with the reset switch - it is conceivable that one is broken, but highly unlikely that both are.

After reading that spec, my first inclination is DOA power supply. Do you have a spare (known working) PSU that you can connect up to this machine temporarily?

Also, it could be a problem with duff RAM. I would suggest trying 1 RAM module at a time, and switch around which slot it is placed in. Also, if you have any other sticks (known working) of DDR3 to test - that would be a good test as well.

HI again

firt of all thankyou for the quick replies, in response to the power switch and reset switch swap over, i have tried this before from a thread i found online, no sign of life. And no, there is no sign of life at all :(. No fans or anything. I dont have a spare PSU but i shall try the singular RAM that was mentioned and get back to you. Also, im using leads from my old motherboard, as I misplaced the leads that came with the new one, should this matter? could it be the problem ;O?
thanks again <3

Ok, so I tried that RAM switching, nothing. And I also tried the power switch/reset button switch over thing again, im afraid to say there is still no sign of life.

Ah, shame it isn't a button problem - that would have been a simple fix.

If you are not seeing any signs of life then it is most likely a PSU or motherboard problem - but swapping the RAM around is worth a try.

What leads are you using from your old motherboard? I assume it is just DVD and HDD cables as the motherboard power cables are usually attached to the PSU.

On thing that could be useful is posting a photo or two of the motherboard and connections. This has been done a few times on the forums and some of the time someone spots something out-of-place and it becomes a quick-fix instead of a lengthy RMA. If you need a hosting site, Imageshack is easy to use and free.

Disconnect the PSU internally to everything except a 4 pin fan and bump start the PSU by shorting the green pin and any black pin with such a thing as a paperclip on the motherboard power connector and see if the PSU powers up and makes the fan spin.

No can do. You need to get your pics online somewhere then use the url in this forum. Hence the imageshack suggestion above.

OK, wev got something! i tried the paperclip thing and it powered up, fans going etc, but i only heard one beep, I dont think the hard-drive powered up or something, but yeh fans working!!

Click on this link, then click on the "Browse" button and select the photo. Then click "upload now" (click "Upload Options / Resizing >>" if you need to resize a really big photo).

Then copy the link you are give to the picture in the OCUK picture insert bit when making a post.

Encouraging news. However, where did you hear the "beep" from?

by the sounds of it it was coming from the harddrive but not to sure on that

Did you use the correct amount on stand off in the correct locations? And i'm guessing the fans that powered up were fans connected directly to the PSU? Disconnect the power from the HD while you're farting around with it as it's not good for it to spinning up and down.

The brass things you screw into the motherboard tray so they line up with the holes in the motherboard.

EDIT: looking at the pic, did you actually use standoffs? all i see is grey of the motherboard tray though the holes in the motherboard not the gold colour of brass.

I attatched the motherboard to the case a few weeks ago as I was still waiting on parts to be delivered, i can just remember screwing the board in at the line up holes

If you screwed the board directly to the motherboard tray then it's shorting out agaisnt it and thats your problem. You'll have to take it out and look.
