Hello,

I have just finished putting together a completely new build which consists of

Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 1.80Ghz
ASUS P5LD2 SE R2.0 i945P Socket 775 6-channel audio ATX
Arctic Cooling AC-FRZ-7P Socket 775 CPU Cooler
Arctic Power 500W PSU
LiteOn DH-20A3P-12C
Seagate 250GB Barracuda HDD Hard Drive SATA
Nvidia GeForce 8600GT 256Mb PCI Express Graphics Card
CORSAIR 2GB (2 x 1GB ) PC2-5400 667Mhz DDR2 Memory

After checking all wires etc were in the corrent places I turned the system on for the first time. But the monitor just shows "no signal".

I have tried a digital and analog monitor in both the ports and there is no onboard graphics.

Please help me.

Thanks, Jamie.

does the pc make any beeping noises? try booting with only one stick of ram?

I don't even know if the speaker is put on the motherboard correctly. Is the red live? or is it the black? I have tried both ways but no beeps and i have already tried with 1 stick of ram but absolutely nothing.

:-(

I dont know what ive done wrong.

What now please?

Thanks, Jamie.

ok as there is nothing happening at all start at basics.

1/ swicth on back of psu on ( spent hour once before realising i hadnt lol)
2/ switch wired up correctly on case ?
3/ extra 4 pin connector plugged into motherboard (may be 8pin)

I can agree with fishdude, and once spent more time than I care to admit without power leads going from psu to peripherals.
In my own defence it was my first custom build, and I was about a month between case+psu, and the rest of everything...
Try retracing everything: all connections, and power to everything. Any doubt about connects, switch them about. I know its a pain, but an hour or two and you can rule out the obvious before you go rma'ing.
Best of luck mate.

I forgot to say everything starts up;
The power LED turns on.
The motherboard recieves power.
The cpu fan spins.
The Hard drive spins. (Don't know why because there is no OS installed on it yet)
The graphics card fan spins.
The front and back of the case's fans, they spin.
The CD/DVD player/burner's LED light turns on but the tray will not open :S

No matter what I seem to do it just says "no signal" on the computer sceen (Which also works by the way I tested it with my old computer)
I don't know what to do and I'm getting really aggrevated :( it's not fair.

P.S This is my first build and i'm 16 years old :P just thought you'd like to know

Thanks for your help in advanced,
Jamie.

ok does you graphic card have any power connectors on it ? if so make sure they are plugged in.

also try removing graphics card and then reseating it back in place.

also if it has more than one output on the back try using the other one

No my graphics card doesn't need external power.
I've reseated it a few times and tried taking off the metal plate at the back to see if I could push it in the slot any further and that didn't work either.
I have tried both outputs. The dvi and vga and neither work :-(

Anymore suggestions? Maybe my motherboard is broken... But it's new so why would it? How to I test? I did spill the tiniest drop of thermal grease on my finger and touch the back of the motherboard. I cleaned it of very very softly with tissue and lightly blew off it off. I din't leave a mark or anything. I don't know...

Thanks for your help,
Jamie.

Did you check number 3 on thefishdude list.

3/ extra 4 pin connector plugged into motherboard

I have forgotten to plug in the 4 pin connector into motherboard before and eveything lights up but no output to monitor. :)

only connect whats needed at first......so that means no hardrive/cd/dvd/soundcard/tv.tuner......

keyboard videocard monitor memory only

then try 1 stick of memory at a time in different slots

then you can go from there

I went and looked your MB up, and it says

Supported RAM Speed PC2-3200, PC2-4300, PC2-5300

So it maybe a ram issue here, its just maybe no compat with your MB at all,

I have quite a similar setup to you, and I get the same problem..

Im using

Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2 (Socket 775) PCI-Express/AGP DDR2 Motherboard
OcUK Huntkey 500W PSU
GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX21GB6400UDC)

I can't believe it! I know now I forgot to plug something in on the MoBo that 4 pin connector. I'm at school right now so i'll do it in a few hours.

Ill report back. Thanks a lot.

Thanks,
Jamie.

Probably the one most overlooked part :D I’ve done it a few times also! Just hope it is and you get up and running.

Yes! It works! Thanks a lot.

But now I have another problem :-(

I have a new (refurbished) seagate Sata hard disk.

For some reason what ever sata port i use it will not show up as primary master in the bios and it also says (in the post screen)

3rd Master Hard Disk:S.M.A.R.T Status:BAD, Backup and replace.

But yet I was able to install vista 64bit on and I also got the error in vista as well. :-(

I even tried unplugging the cd-rom drive which showed up at primary slave. That didn't help either.

I may have damaged the CMOS battery holder pins very slightly. How do i know if the bios is getting power or not from the battery? would the bios settings (such as the time) reset everytime i restart?

Thanks for your help,
Jamie.

3rd Master Hard Disk:S.M.A.R.T Status:BAD, Backup and replace.

Seems to suggest the HDD is faulty mate, download a diagnostics tool from the manufactures website and run that, should confirm the above. If it doesn’t post back with the results and well go from there :)

Will do mate thanks :-)

After trying to install it i realised that the seatools (diagnostic tools for seagate sata drives) dose'nt support vista 64bit.

So i'm trying to dig up my old Windows MCE 2005 disc and install that. Ill report back tommorow as i have school tommorow morning so i need to go to bed.

Thanks for your help, :p
Jamie.
