I have Asus P5K m/b and reaper OCZ 8500 memory an e6600 cpu.

I do not understand how to keep the memory @1066 and overclock the cpu also what cpu v-core should it be and ("is it northbridge") voltage.

My multiplier is at 9 and memory 5 5 5 15 all on air cooling.

I have to 2.8ghz but i am sure you can reach 3+ghz.

Thankyou

I think your problem is your ram, ddr2 6400 would be easier to overclock with if you are running the cpu and mem linked, on my 680i you get the option to run them independantly(unlinked) so i dont have to raise my ram speed with the cpu.

If you're running it at 2.8 with a 9x multi, then im guessing your fsb is around 311 so thats a ram speed of 622 so you have got a lot left in terms of your ram, just set what you can in the bios to manual i.e. the timings and set the voltage to the max it is recommended. Then start upping the fsb and running prime95 to check the system is stable, if it fails up the cpu volts and see if it becomes stable. Usually if the system passess for just over 30 mins its quite stable but some people like to test for a lot longer e.g. 8 hours. But while your still adjusting, just do it for between 30-60 mins. Then later on do a longer one
If you run cpu-z is your memory running 1:1?

download and use cpuz from guru3d and its under the memory tab in that program

Its supposed to be marginally better, i wasnt saying to set it as that, was just trying to find out if his was, so can try and understand how his system is set up.

Now multiplyer is 9 and fsb at 350 which gives me 3.1ghz nice, now memory is set to 700mhz which in cpuz shows as 1:1 great but my memory is ddr2 8500 @1066 so am i lossing something here.
To you guys that have helped so far thank you.

no there was just no point in buying ram that fast if thats the clock you want! To take advantage of that memory you ned ** fsb 400+. You happy with that clock? You would have been fine with 800mhz ram, what timings are you getting at that speed? i.e in cpuz under memory tab what numbers do you have next to CL, tRCD, tRP, tRAS.

What are your temps like?

Hi mpj88,
CL=5.0
TRCD=5
TRP=5
TRAS=5
also there is one more that is 15 but i do not know what it is called.
command rate 2T

If i could get cpu to 3.2ghz then yes i think i would be happy.
Just goes to show how much i dont know when i bought my memory, i thought i was doing good because it seemed faster 1066.

Do you think i could get fsb upto 400 ?? what would tighter timings do on memory.

Thanks

Your unlikely to get to the neccessary FSB values in order to take advantage of the memory. As stated 800Mhz would've been fine. As your memory is 'underclocked' you can compensate by tightening the timings - try 4-4-4-12 for starters and see how you get on.

you wouldnt get that much of a benefit of .1ghz increase plus not much point in going away from 1:1 memory. As badger has said try tighter timings, make sure the voltage is enough. Or keep on upping the fsb until you cant make it stable!

Tbh i dont know much about your mobo, have a look on the web for some reviews and see what the max fsb people have achieved. I have mine running at 425 but then again mine is a DFI and could probably go quite further if i knew more about it! :D! lol

Now have fsb at 360 cpu running @ 3.240 and memory timings are 4 4 4 12 memory speed showing as 720mhz ;-))

I think i may buy a better cooler, i downloaded a cpu temp checker both cores showed as 42o/c and 44o/c though i think that temp is ok ?

May i ask mpj88 your E8500 is that allot better/faster than my e6600 as i have the same 4870 as you, would it increase FPS allot.

What games do you play? Is that temp under load or idle? mine idles at just over 30 and prob goes up to around 60. The E8x00 series is supposed to be better as more cache and they run cooler so easier to oc.

Bit of a better fsb, i recon you could get to 400 with time, if it fails to become stable and are increasing the volts on the cpu, run small FFTs and this will mainly test your cpu and if it passes that then you need to slacken some RAM timings.

400fsb (or 3.6ghz on the cpu at 1:1) should be fine i have p5k D and did have E6600 and the same ram i found the FSB limit of around 475 , 485 tops with abit more volts to the NB (seems to be the same for my e8600 E0) so stick it to 400 i needed 1.48/1.5v to get 3.6ghz stable on my e6600 (but this is under water) as the for ram set it to 444 15

And i can't say i saw a jump FPS games going from a e6600 @ 3.6ghz to my e8600 @ 4.4ghz

When you start prime95 there is an option for stress tests and the one called small FFTs tests your cpu stability mainly
