Hey All had a Netgear DG834 for 2.5years, just got a DG834N wireless router

I intended to use the 834 as a switch attached to the 834N via a lan cable, and use the 834N as the primary net access device and wireless device while extending my Lan plugs using the 834 as a switch

All works good for about 30 mins, from any pc attached to any of the routers if i type in 192.168.....etc it correctly goes to the 834N, however after about half an hour the 834 becomes the 'dominant' router and if i type in 192.168.....etc it goes to the 834  when I want it to remain 834N as the dominant router

How do I stop this happening ? is there a setting in the old 834 I have to set ?

You have them both set to the same ip address?

If you want one to be a wireless/switch, you need to turn off anything that will conflict with the primary router. Give it a different ip address. Turn off DHCP. etc.

they both have 192.168.0.1 as there default address, both routers have wired devices attached to them, if i turn off dhcp on the old 834 will it stop it automatically assigning i.p address's to which ever pc is plugged in to it ? which router do I have to disable stuff on ? I assume the 2nd one as I want the 834n as my main device, please list what I have to change or turn off on the old 834 (i assume?) that would be a great help, cheers, sorry im a noob at networking ! lol

You'll have to change the IP address for one, and disable DHCP.
It's not important which you change it on but whatever you do, you have to make sure that the router that's providing an internet connection is being set as the default gateway.

If you turn off DHCP on one, any devices will get their IP address, subnet mask et al from the other router - they're all on the one segment anyway.
