... The local cat.

It doesn't help that I hate the little buggers anyway but the cat near our house, god knows who owns it, is intent on digging up around my conifers and new plants. It also ***** and ****** everywhere and with a child on the way this makes it even worse.

I have tried a powder stuff you spread on the garden which should get rid of them, which failed. Tried stuff like orange peel etc, which failed. Now to stop myself catching the thing, dismembering it and hanging the parts from the wall to ward off any other adventurous kitties in the community, does anyone know any other useful and effective anti-cat measures?

In before the "cats have a right to go anywhere and they are not the owners responsibility" crew!

Spray it with the hose every time it comes into the garden it'll soon learn!

Usually the cats can't keep out of my garden (I'm not a cat person) but since I've re-seeded a large part of my old lawn they've disappeared instead I've a flock of birds eating all the seed - come back cats, scare them away!

whilst I agree its not very nice, using a baby on the way isnt really a reason to get rid of them, dont be so precious, also your baby wont be able to move for at least 6 months. youve got ages to figure out your problem.

I put down some netting over the flower beds. Because cats like to bury their business - they walk on the netting, don't like the feel of it / don't like the fact they can't cover things up and go elsewhere.

With all the millions of cats around us I went from a minimum of one new desposit a day to zero per year!
Interestingly, I pulled up the netting a few weeks ago to weed and plant some more things in the beds, but so far the cats still haven't revisited.

The netting I used is the stuff you get from garden centres for keeping birds away from growing vegetables. It's not expensive, and isn't too unsightly laid over the bare soil IMO.

Spraying the cat with water might work too if you are around to catch it in the act.

Can't really blame the cats though for doing what comes naturally, so in before the 'animal cruelty is ok' ocuk crew :/

Lion pee/poop from the zoo? No idea if that actually works or if you have a local zoo :p

So he wants rid of the crap in his garden. Your suggestion is to put crap from an even bigger cat there in it's place?!

The only times cats **** all over my garden is those odd years we have between owning dogs. They still come in the garden if the dog is inside, but they never use it for a bathroom, presumably because they know it's not a safe place or whatever now. Not helpful if you don't want a dog, but I've tried all the little tricks before, and this is the only thing that has kept the little ***** from making a mess of my lawn.

I'd agree with the netting thing. Cats are animals of habit, once they've gone somewhere they will keep going. Male cats have a territory extending about 6 gardens, 3 each way, usually. If you find the netting works to keep him out once or twice then after that he wont come back. Also try something like small sticks sticking up from the ground all around the place. Not spikey to cause injury, but just to make the area hared to navigate.

Been ranting to someone at work, they suggested a noise making thing. Makes sone sort of noise only cats can hear and keeps them away. Anyone know about this?

I do like the lion idea. Someone at work suggested a landmine :p

I've heard about those ultrasonic things. Not sure the range or anything and also heard from one or two people who swear they can hear them too.

It's supposed to deter cats :p You can actually buy it online in powdered and pellet form I've just found out. I wasn't mad afterall!

Cats also apparently dislike the scent of other cats and I know someone who was friendly with a keeper at a local wildlife park and used to douse the perimeters with Lion urine - infallible apparently , but - hazarding a guess, difficult and indeed dangerous to come by

Lion and wildcat urine can be bought in powdered form online

I found that using a citrus spray kept cats off my bin bags, maybe there's something similar that could be put in the garden

failing that you could maybe buy the Ark Royal and some harriers then just launch sorties over your garden every now and then , bit expensive but if it works....

How true it is or if it even works but my mums neighbor once said to lay down moth balls as they have a strong smell and cats hate em.
