Hi there,

Im sure your motherboard will take the E6300 but i would look around and check first to see if someone else has a core 2 duo processor in that motherboard. It might only be a bios update.

Other than that, the rest of the stuff should work fine.

You may have a problem in that your motherboard doesn't officially support Conroe according to MSI.

I'd also suggest that the PSU supplied with the case is unlikely to be any good and finally the graphics card isn't particularly great, if that is around your budget save up a little bit more and get a 7600gt. :)

The graphics card is certainly compatible given it is PCI-E but I don't know if the CPU is.

The Gigabyte DS3 will probably be better for overclocking(read as 99% sure of this) but I suppose it depends on how far you might want to take the overclocks.

Yeah will def get atleast a 450w PSU.

Re: GPU
Which 7600GT would you recommend ?
The Belinea 1925S1W monitor doesn't support DVI as far as I know, so would need something with normal VGA connector ???

A 7600gt is pretty standard generally, some are pre-overclocked but there isn't a huge amount of point in spending more on them, I'd also not bother too much about getting any more than 256mb Ram onboard as a 19" monitor doesn't really require it. Just get the cheapest you can find. :)

They will either have a standard analogue connection for the monitor(D-Sub) or they should have a DVI-analogue adapter included.

Thanks for all you help so far Semi-pro waster, really good help.

I've made some changes now, hows this setup ??

I'm going to look around for the best prices though !

Is it better to get the CPU without the heat sink and buy one seperate ??

It looks good, I'd probably buy the CPU OEM and get a separate heatsink and fan but you do get a slightly shorter warranty(1 year compared to 3 years normally). Other than that I don't know anything about the Ram but it is probably just some generic stuff rebranded so should work fine. :)

You're speccing up parts from a competitor, a bit cheeky really considering this is the OCuk forums. Was clearly obvious when i saw the stock numbers next to the parts.

By listing parts from that site, you're mentioning a competitor (against forum rules).

Apologies, I was using *competitor*, but only cause its easier to see what you building, once I know what I want I will be ordering quite a lot of the stuff from OCuk. In furture I will only put the product name then if it bothers you so much. I just want o make it perfectly clear that I am not trying to get people to user other site or detract from buying from OCuk.

Cheers

WOuld I be bett off with an ATI GPU over the Nvidia, on my price range ?

was thinking of: Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-134-SP) --> £135.11 ????

for now buy a 6800 from a well know competitor for £40 then in a few months buy a lovely top of the range dx10 card....

to spend that much on a new gfx card now is just not worth it :)

ultimately your cash your choice :)

And spending £400 on a graphics card is a wise choice?.......

Bang for buck the DX9 card is money well spent if you ask me. DX10 cards are still gonna be at least £300+ in a few months for sure, plus we're yet to hear about bugs, driver issues, and ATI of course have their release coming up, but i still don't expect prices to plummit anytime soon.

So personally i'd say the 7900GS is a wiser investment.

how can spending xx hundred pounds for a few months be a wise choice?

in april when dx10 games are available the card u buy then will last a lot alonger then like 4 months

You won't need DX10 until you need VISTA, as i understand it and i could be wrong, DX10 is going to be Vista only.

Spending £100 or so pound for a card that will last you until DX10 is a requirement, not that will be anytime soon, is a good investment, better then spending £400 for a card, then waiting to buy Vista for £xxx to use it on DX10. Would it not be wiser to wait until you have to have Vista, then fork out on the card, rather then run a DX10 on DX9 and pay more for it now.

The card could easily come down £100 in the time it'll take for DX10 to become a requirement, so therefore it costs you no more in the long run, plus by that time you'll have more established and tested cards on the market to buy.

Buying the newest and greatest hardware is not always the best choice.

It depends on how you do it but essentially I'd agree with your post, DX10 is highly unlikely to be a requirement for a reasonable period because the user base of DX9 compatible cards is such that I'd be very surprised if there were more than a few games in the next 6-12 months that were DX10 only. Most games will be programmed for DX9 with DX10 extensions I'd think. :)
