Please help - Nvidia control panel keeps crashing

Have been going round roundabouts trying to get this working completely. I can get the interface up and running but as soon as I click on Manage 3D settings, it crashes. Restart computer interface fails.

Firstly going into safe mode removing the Nvidia driver and deleting the Nvidia folder, then emtying the Recycle Bin.

Reboot into Win 7, to reinstall drivers.

Checked to see if the Nvidia folder was present, no ..nothing there.

Another requester pops up requesting to reboot before installing the Nvidia drivers.

Accepted the option to reboot first.

An Nvidia folder is now there.

Then reinstalled the drivers for the card.

Rebooted.

Nvidia Control Panel is able to open.

Click on Manage 3D Settings, then it freezes. ( same with clicking 3D Stereoscopic)

Reboot, Nvidia Control Panel fails to start.

___________

In practicality terms it's not really that much of an inconvenience for those specific settings as my software is what controls what I see.

It is NOT a problem with your graphics card, it's an issue with the driver software itself and complicated with installation configurations.

I would suggest clean install or an additional drive to install onto.

Did you do driver sweeper in windows safe mode?

No, but I did look into registry while I was there.

Just to add, I also went to device manager to uninstall the driver first and then deleted manually the files in the folder whilst in safe mode.

_____________

Another test I do will probably be the one where I avoid accepting to reboot first and just install the Nvidia driver.

Did you not just uninstall via control panel>add remove programs

Thats not the best way to uninstall drivers these days. You are really best off in normal windows mode go to programs and features and uninstalling the drivers that way first then you go to safe mode and do driver sweeper then you pop back to normal windows and install the new drivers.

My guess is that if you only did the hardware manager and uninstall the driver that way then the software and settings wouldnt have been removed properly and is now as you have installed new drivers that the settings arnt matching up properly and causing the issues.

Probs best install the drivers, then properly uninstall them the correct way then it might fix the issue.

I wouldn't be so quick to judge.

And I'm quite aware that using the device manager method is not the way to clear the problem on Window 7 machines. Whether that made any difference is besides the point because I've also deleted the NVidia registry entries in safe mode, deleted the actual Nvidia folder in safe mode. Disabled any Nvidia driver in Windows stsrtup. Reinstalled the Nvidia drivers with no popup requests to restart.

Activating the 3D Settings when the control pane pops up still crashes the Nvidia Control Panel.

I just wanted to let you guys know and for my own and others future reference that the issue with the Nvidia Control Panel crashing was resolved by installing this driver for my Nvidia Pailit GTS 250 1 Gig Graphics Card.

The Control Panel and the Manage 3D Settings now work and doesn't crash when accessed.

Driver version

Version: 186.18 WHQL
Release Date: 2009.07.02
Operating System: Windows Vista 64-bit, Windows 7 64-bit
Language: English (U.S.)
File Size: 93.5 MB

Update: The last driver I tried causes severe atifacting in Bad Company 2 , so I've downloaded 195.1.62 driver version.

It still has the previous Manage Settings problems and crashes the Nvidia Control Panel but Bad Company 2 is completely artifact and problem free.
