Please help, PC not Booting

There's even companies out there that you can send your chip to and they'll do it for you, or who sell spare BIOS chips or little holders for the chips with a small amount of flash memory on them that can reflash your chip with a BIOS version you loaded up in them via USB. Have a Google, but I'd try clearing the CMOS again just in case before spending any money.

All the removable BIOS chips I've seen are square with a little notch in one corner, and they sit within a holder rather than on the PCB. They're designed so you can stick something in the notch and just gently lift it out. Try it out rather than waiting for a reply for someone who has it!:)

I have just been googling around and cant find anyone that says the p5b has a removable bios chip.....But i do see lots of people that say it doesnt have a removable chip......

I have also just been through the user manual and there is no mention of it in there either......

Will have a look at the board when i get home but i think your mistaken.

If the bios was corrupted why did the pc work fine until it blue screened and rebooted...? Could it have been corrupted when it crashed and/or rebooted?

BTW, the bios is still the original bios that was on the board when i got it. (0804) I have not nor tried to flash it.

I was thinking it probably happened when you tried to clear it, since you didn't mention trying to flash it. It's a very small chance though, as that sort of stuff usually only happens if the power goes off while you're flashing the chip.

I've NEVER before seen a modern motherboard without a removable BIOS chip. I'm guessing Asus put some sort of failsafe in there, like a non-flashable portion of the chip with a backup copy of the original BIOS on it, so maybe there is something to that CPU trick you read about. It's unthinkable that they would just let a board get FUBARed just because a £5 chip has a bad flash. If the CPU trick doesn't work try clearing it once more, but really pull the power cord and CMOS battery out and leave it for a good few HOURS with the jumper on clear to make sure the CMOS info is completely wiped!

Ok will try that once more, but like i said i left the jumper on clear and the battery out without the power cord plugged in for 24 hours last time and it made absolutely no difference.....

I have also tried the CPR thing which is supposed to clear the cmos too and that didn't work.

Am going to rebuild my old pc this weekend so have a pc and that way i can test the graphics card as that, along with the cpu and mb are the only things left to test/swap now.

To recap,
It never beeps unless there is no ram in it.
Changing the ram is no different.
The lights on the keyboard do not come on or blink when its switched on.
I have tried all combinations of hardware, from everything to nothing to see if it will post, Nothing happens, no beeps, nothing on screen.
I get three beeps when the RAM is not installed in the board otherwise it just spins the fans and sits there, no disk activity, nothing.
The fan on the GFX card spins way faster than it normally does after about 3-5 seconds

Whats the chance of it being the CPU or the GFX?

Well i just rebuilt my old pc, working fine.

That only leaves the cpu and mb that i haven't swapped out....

I will try booting the pc without the cpu in as stated earlier to see if that does anything, But i don't hold out much hope, and yes manveruppd i have removed the battery and set the jumper to clear once again. :)

Well still no luck, time to RMA the board i guess....

If i get the same board should i still reinstall windows or will it be ok as it will just be a like for like swap?

yeah there's the asus forums, but i didn't bother because they seem to be a little 'under populated' if you know what i mean, thats why i thought i'd post up over here, lots of folk that may be able to shed some light on the subject. :)

Should i get the same board again? I have kind of been put off the P5B D now, although i am sure i was just unlucky. :(
