Please help. PC restarts when playing any game

Thanks for all replies today. I've been out so unable to reply until now.

I meant December 2013 when I ordered the PC. So the 2 year warranty is up unfortunately.

In regards to sending the PSU to corsair, how do I go about this? I think this would be a good idea before buying a new PSU. Would be good for them to take a look at it before I buy a new one.

In regards to screenshots/videos of the GPU information on the games that do play, ok, I will upload the evidence of this tomorrow night.

It's still possible that it's not my PSU that's the issue, no? What if I send it all the way to corsair and they say it's ok? I'm back to square one.

Im a computer technician. It's your power supply. End of conversation. Swap your power supply, solve the problem. I've never seen HWmonitor throw up voltages that are off by 9 volts, so even if it is misreading, the delta is wide enough to be sure that your PSU is screwed. Stop using that PSU NOW!! You could damage your system.

Get a new quality power supply and you'll be fine assuming no components have been damaged.

Go buy a new power supply, install it, enjoy your fully functioning machine. Then take your damaged power supply and send it to Corsair for repair. They have very good warranty service. Once you get it back, sell it as a new item (or refurb, depending on what they send you. They won't repair the PSU its cheaper for them labor wise to send you another one).

I have no idea what most of you in this thread are smoking to be honest... Check CPU temperatures? Seriously? He's crashing WHEN HE LAUNCHES games guys. Its so obvious that it's the power supply that it's not even funny.
I can't believe that even after he threw up the HWMONITOR screenies you guys were still barking up these ridiculous trees.

Most people are now saying it's the psu, and yeah i agree, we have these pcs at work which are always restarting themselves and it's always the crummy psus. the guy comes and fits the same psu in again which works for a few months before it starts restarting again.. but yeah no need to be a douche about it!

Wrong it could be his motherboard or CPU but replacing PSU is the cheapest option.

HW monitor can be out by quiet a lot depending on build and connections.

Same with CPUz etc they can vary a lot, but yes I agree try new PSU.

To op replacing PSU is one of easiest things to replace on a PC, they are all coded and socket notched so its virtually impossible to connect the wrong lead, go for it. ;)

Thanks for all responses, so it sounds like the PSU.

I have fiddled around with the BIOS a bit trying to get it to work, changing RAM speeds etc, is it possible I have edited something that simply needs to be changed in the BIOS to get things back to normal?

Also, is there any limitations to what PSU I can get, in relation to my motherboard?

I want to get a good one that will run a GTX 980 or GTX 980 TI, that I intend to buy to work with a Rift. What would someone recommend? Budget of around £100 or so I guess, but not sure how much to splash out on a PSU really.

Thanks

Once a long time ago i was playing a game and got sudden pc switched off syndrome. Turned out it was the psu being dodgy. Replaced it and was fine again. So possibly ur psu is failing when at load.

There are programs to test the psu see how the values drop when under load etc.

http://www.ocbase.com/

Not sure how to use as been ages since i tried that, some say not to use it as could damage psu but i dunno about that, theres always prime95 i suppose or 3dmark tests i guess too but they dont show psu levels but if it turns off when running them u can probably guess its the psu. If u need help using occt i think there probably would be utube tutorials around for that.

Also i read http://www.corsair.com/en-gb/builder-series-cx600-v2-80plus-certified-power-supply that it has a 3 year warranty so ur good till dec 2016 if ur correct that you bought it in dec 2013.

Hi all, apologies for the delay in the update.

So I have had a friend kindly come round to my house with a load of spare parts, so that we could find the root of the problem.

We switched the PSU, and the problem was still there.

We switched the RAM, and the problem was still there.

We switched the GPU.... and boom... it was all working fine.

So, my GPU has failed.

He told me it looked like that because the games boot ok, but then restart, the card is looking for a bit of memory on the card that is corrupt.

I'm pretty annoyed that it's the most expensive part that has falied. What do you guys suggest I do?

I feel like I should get at least some kind of compensation for the part failing, even though my warranty is out, the GPU cost me £316.66 when I bought it, and for it to fail in just over 2 years!

What's everyone's thoughts? Who should I contact?

Cheers

That sucks! Guess you could try having a talk with OCUK and see if there's anything they can do, other than that talk to Gainward.... But its still only got a 2 year warranty on the card, so I don't know if they may offer some goodwill gesture.... never dealt with them before.

I am so sorry to bump this thread, bolo_bokn its the GPU 1000% I am sure you have found that out by now. This has happend to me 3 times now, card is currently broken with the same issue.

Just wondering now this chap has found it to be his GPU that you have any further comments?

:D
