i have just installed a new mobo in a old pc and am running a ied dvd rw and a ied hhd off one ribbon wire i have set the correct slaves and masters but every time i boot i get the same message:

reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot drive and press any key

please help i am using a P5QPL-AM

thx

Are the two drives detected by the bios?

Tried a different Cable?

Check the boot order?

Try to boot with just one device connected, in case you have got the jumpers wrong even though they seem to be correct.

Having a DVD/CD drive and a HD on the same cable is never a good idea, but I know modern boards only have one IDE channel.

Are you reinstalling windows? Im guessing it is because you are trying to use an old install in a new mobo. Do both drives appear correctly in the BIOS?

Haven't left a USB stick in have you

Leaving a USB stick or floppy in will give you this message as they come before the HD in boot order.

Make sure the HD is set to either AHCI or not, because if it changes (from changing the board), it won't boot Windows until it was the same as before.
