Please help...serious issue.

Does house insurance not cover this?

Just don't pay it, what are they going to do, take your demolished house?

If they do, tell them they are welcome to it.

If you don't pay they set up an account for you and charge 10% APR on any unpaid rates. They can then take the land your house is built upon (which still has value). Also, this ruins your credit raiting i believe. Insurance only covers the rebuilding of the house, or gives you it's value if the land cannot be built upon (such as if you live at the bottom of a cliff which has been made unsafe by quakes or something similar)

Nothing short of a joke tbh. I live fairly close to the border and quite a few mates use red diesel (only permitted for agricultural use in tractors and such) and HM Customs wonder why? It's a joke that we pay through the nose whilst the USA run their big Gas Guzzlers for pennies. Something wrong big time :(

I do agree that there is something wrong there.

I don't have the time, sorry.

In which case, thanks for taking the time to read my thread anyway :)

Thanks to everyone else too.

Jamiman - Good luck with your cause.

Of course it's difficult to respond to a tax issue in a foreign country when many of us in the UK are feeling the pinch.

Without taking sides here im with Jamiman. We are Taxed to the back teeth by the greedy government whilst they waste money sending fighter jets over foreign countries. What does that achieve? Are they trying to stabilise the price of oil for us mere mortals cause it ain't working. Bunch of crooks tbf.

I read the linked news article, it sounds exactly like something the UK Govt would do to us. I feel slightly happier in the knowledge that for once, another countries Govt is bending their citizens over.
I know this is wrong....

Lol good luck,

Side note, do they pay nearly as much Tax as us Brits do? i doubt it :p

Compared to income yes. If you went there on a UK salary you're living the easy life.

Take an NZ salary and the pinch is as ever present as it is here.

Haha, certain parallels can be drawn! :D

Of course, that is understandable. But who knows, a win over there may lead our government to rethink taxes here (Highly unlikely, i will admit :D)

I feel uncomfortable with assisting in the democratic process of another country in such an unusual and unconventional manner.

If you don't mind I feel we should invade first, have a poke around for any natural resources or people with beards, and then sign your petition.

If a few of your people could throw stones so we could shoot them, then the training opportunity would be worth the cost of the air flight over there.

Thanks :)
