Hi looking for some help on how i can stop or at least lessen how often it happens. My Pc runs fine for videos and everyday use but when i play games the pc will cut out and require me to remove the power cable from my psu for about 30 seconds before it will boot back up.

The specs of my pc are higher than that required for the games im playing but unless i turn the graphics to minimun this will happen after an undetermined time. Obviously i lose my progress and its a pain. Im strapped for cash so cant really afford to replace anything at the moment but hoping someone canoffer me some suggestions on how to lower the chances of it happening.I currently play Pillars eternity 2,Battlefleet gothic 2 and Warhammer total war 2

As above - and what are your CPU and GPU temperatures under load?

Try a 5 to 10 minute burst of Prime95 for CPU and then Furmark for the GPU (separately) - as this should be long enough if you have overheating problems within games.

Use Core Temp to monitor CPU temps and GPUz for GPU - unless you have your own monitoring software.

If, temps look like they're going north of sane - cancel the test.

I ran prime95 and it settled at 56c

Then ran furtest and it crashed within 30 seconds

Im basically just looking for any quick fixes or temporary measures would unplugging devices or disabling features anything work? Cant afford a new psu for a month or two

You can try setting an fps limit so that the GPU doesn't use all its power (that the PSU seemingly can't provide). Can also try setting a lower Power Limit through any AMD software that allows it, or MSI Afterburner. Although the latter may not be feasible or a good idea with the 7800 series depending on how the clock scales with power. I never had one or messed about with one of those.

But the bad news is that a bad PSU could kill most/all of your system any moment and that PSU has probably been in that system quite a while already and have degraded substantially and is giving you signs. Then you'd have to spend a lot more. If you are sure you can afford the cost of a PSU in a couple of months then look at finance options and buy it now and replace ASAP.

Gotta agree with this.

I know it's a bugger but at least it's given you a 'shot across the bows' (or it missed) - rather than taking out your whole system.

Have you considered sites where people give away stuff for free (but this will have it's own risks) - you may get lucky - you need a PSU to carry you over until you can afford to buy a new one.

I ran a similar system, FX8350 then 9590 CPU with a 78** series GPU with a Seasonic x650 gold PSU. The max power output I measured at the wall socket was 425W. This was measured running prime and heaven benches concurrently. You do not need an 800W PSU, just one that produces at least 450W reliably without overheating or spiking.

My PSU is now 10 years old and still good running a Ryzen 7 system. A 600W+ Gold of a good manufacturer will be ample.

Replace this ASAP.

This indicates that the problem is with the GPU or PSU.

Your PSU is a generic Chinese POS and could destroy your PC, indeed it may have already damaged the GPU.
