Please help with Riad 0 problem

2x Vertex 2 60gb in Raid 0, ok it sets up ok shows as 111gb in Raid 0 but once i have windows installed and look at the drive space in my computer the drive shows as 111gb still but 40gd of space has been used??? all i have done is put windows 7 on it, also i have setup raid 0 on a second motherboard and it did the same :s.. Any ideas thanks!

By the time you take into account the page file and the hibernation file, Windows 7 takes up that sort of amount of space.

Ok thanks, im sure it only used 15gig on a single ssd..

Rpstewart is correct. One can try to allieviate the issue by taking the following action:

Remove Windows 7 SP1 Backups To Free Up Disk Space

Also take a look at this.

Notice the pagefile.sys file is 8.0GB and the hiberfil.sys is 6.0GB. I figured out the hiberfil.sys file is for hibernating and is the same size as my RAM, 6 GB. The pagefile.sys is essentially the swap file ... extra memory on the hard drive.

Okay, I'm no expert on this but I figured out it is safe to eliminate the hiberfil.sys file. The only implication is that I just can't hibernate the computer anymore, which I don't do anyways. Doing this brought me back up to about 9 GB of available disk space ... awesome!

Now, how about the pagefile.sys file? I did a search and have found all kinds of advice from 'you should delete it if you have a SSD' to 'never change it, it will screw your system up'. The most logical explanations I have read is that I can simply modify it so it is much smaller if you need the extra disk space. It sounds like when you have 6 GB of memory like I do, it really isn't necessary to have a 8 GB pagefile. However, before I make any changes ... anybody have any words of wisdom on the pagefile?
