Probably not, it might depend on the motherboard and/or what you are trying to do but generally you can just let the system sort it out providing you are replacing like for like e.g. PC3200 for PC3200 or whatever. :)
 
Wouldnt the FSB for the memory be a good indication?..... should say on post or at least somewhere within the bios.
 
its ok i found it and its ddr2-sdram pc2 4300 @266mhz 54412. i want to swap it with 5 do i have to mess around with the bios? Also why is it 4300 @ 266 not 4200 @ 533mhz?

Because it's DDR2 so 2 * 266 = approx 533
