Bit of a crazy Q,

Would a monitor set to the wrong resolution stop a computer from booting up?

My mum and dads TFT (17") looking in the information in the menu says its set to 640x480 and the computer will go past the post screen then just go to a black screen and no thurther. i tried booting in safe mode but that gets so far and stops aswell??

any ideas im really puzzled

unless it's going out or range and what you're seeing is not the fact that the PC is crashing, just the fact that the image cannot be viewed on the screen? Maybe try hooking up a diff monitor and see?

Cheers for your reply Baddass,

I tried a diff monitor last night but it does the same, i didnt know if it was a safety feature to stop the monitor being damaged, i wouldnt have a clue about monitors tbh.

I phoned OcUK support today who said the problem sopunded like a memory issue so ill have to pop back over to me parents and try that.

Cheers again

Boot in safe mode, it'll then be SVGA. Uninstall drivers, reboot, then re-install. It'll be in SVGA and then can change to native.
