Please Help!

Hi All,

I've just bought the following parts ...

Processor - AMD Phenom X6 Black Edition 1090T @ 3.2ghz
Motherboard - Asus M5A97 Pro
Ram - 2 x 4gb Corsair Vengence @ 1600mhz
Cooler - Silent Knight 2 with Arctic Silver 5
Stress Tester - OCCT

The problem I'm having is that I can OC the Processor safely to 3.4 the temps are roughly 48c but when I take it any higher, the temps exceed 80c+ within 6 mins.
When I click the "Performance" tab in the Mobo, the CPU is automatically set to 3.8ghz. When I stress test it, it fails due to the temps being too high.
I've also tried it on Manual and incremented the Multiplier, this has given me the same heat results.
Can anyone please tell me if I have a dodgy CPU or am I OC'ing the board incorrectly?
I need to know if the CPU is faulty as I have only just bought it.

I'm fairly new to OC'ing and I need all the advice I can possibly get.

Could be the CPU cooler is not sitting correctly?

That doesn't mean you've done it correctly.

What sort of voltage is being used when you get the high temperatures?

3.7v?!? That is way too high! That will kill the CPU!!! You're not meant to go over 1.5v with these chips!

Nothing smells nicer than a toasted cpu.

Looking at the specs they quote 1.4 volts as maximum.

Surely it would not last even one second at that voltage, install CPUz and tell us what that says.

well hes cpu could will prbs be using cool and quiet and so dropping the voltage 90% of the time and that could be what has saved it so far?

I doubt the bios would let him set the Vcore to 3.7 lol.
