Hey guys,

Heres the story...i have an AMD 4600+ but i have been tryin to overclock it. However when i get to the 2.60Ghz mark the whole system dies, get a big blue screen and reboots. Sometimes i make it into windows and most times it crashes when you get the XP loading screen. My entire system configuration is below. Any help in any shape or form would be massively appreciated!

Motherboard:Sapphire PURE Advantage CrossFire
Processor:AMD 4600+
RAM: 2GB OCZ PC3200 Platinum
HDD: 150GB Raptor X
Sound: X-Fi Fatal1ty
Graphics: Dual X850 in CrossFire mode
PSU: 580w Hyper Type R
Cooling:Zalman Fatal1ty CPU Cooler (Air)

I also have zalman fatal1ty coolers of the graphics cards, 4 80mm Fans and a 120mm fan on case.

Cooling is no issue the processor is running at 23 degrees, according to BIOS and 2.6 is not a big jump for this CPU, i mean i see the 3800+ running at 2.5Ghz wow!

Anyway Guys,

Thanks for all your help in advance, its greatly appreciated.

Matt

Dunno what clocks you should be getting from that RAM but are you still on stock volts on the CPU? If so up that by the smallest amount you can and see how it goes, if that doesn't help put your RAM on a divider (eg set it to 333mhz instead of 400) also check the oc stickys you know it makes sense :)

Thats not a large overclock. As stated above reduce memory to rule it out of the equation. Start at 166 and if needed reduce to 133. Also the higher the overclock you will need to reduce the HTT multi. Reduce to 4x or 800 then 3x 600.
Would like to think you would be able to go higher than you are currently.
Good luck. :)

none of that worked or im doing it wrong  has anybody clocked a 4600+ before? if ya have could u give me a few values please??

Cheers guys.

Have you changed the HT multi from x5 to x4 or lower? Rule is to keep it below 1000 so if your trying to run 217fsb x 5 then that will be 1085 and therefore over the 1000 mark and that could be causing unstability? just a suggestion

Yea i tried everything u guys have said, i can get 2590mhz thats unstable, maybe my board sucks for oc'ing (see first post), i mean theres a guy that got a 4800+ to 3.2, exactly same core as mine!! copuld also be the fact ive never done this before. I reduced cores to 2.5, that seems stable....

Your motheboard could be the source of your problems, i have read somewhere that the sapphire board is not a very good overclocking one

I have a Sapphire Pure Innovation and although the Sapphire boards aren't the best for overclocking, they aren't that bad either.

I have a 3800 X2 running at 2500 no problem with this board, so it would suggest to me that you're doing something wrong. Have you increased the VCore yet - you said earlier that it was on stock volts?

Reduce RAM multi - 333
Reduce HTT multi - 4x
Step up VCore a bit
Lock the PCI bus (although mine does this automatically, so I'm guessing yours does too)
Raise CPU speed

// EDIT // Don't worry about it :)! The X2 above was my first real OC. Google for other OC guides and specifics on the processor to see what others have done with it.

Don't worry about the VCore. All sapphire boards have a faulty read-out with CPU-Z - its well documented on their forums. My Pure Innovation is currently reading 1.8V, which it certainly isn't doing (its 1.4V).
