I know nothing at all about them, but my mate is after a laptop, which he's only going to be using for browsing, so can someone please recommend a relatively quick full sized laptop, at a good price point of course.

Cheers.

If it's purely for web browsing then a dual core laptop would be more than enough for your friend.

ADVENT Modena M202:

Dual-core Intel® Celeron® T3500 processor
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Memory: 4GB
Hard drive: 320GB
Screen: 15 inch 1366 x 768
VGA Output

For around £300

Or a slightly more powerful laptop which will be overkill for just "web browsing" but will last you a good few years:

ACER Aspire 5750:

Intel® Core™ i3-2310M processor
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium
Memory: 4GB
Hard drive: 320GB
Screen: 15 inch 1366 x 768
HDMI Output

For around £380

Basically look for a dual core laptop (i3 would be your best bet) with at least 3GB memory and whatever hard drive you require. Prices range between £300 and £450 for what you need.

Acer. HDMI, better proc, never really trusted Advent, although Acer aren't the word for Quality (but seem to have got better last time I checked).

And I'd also go for a i3 (Sandybridge or previous generation) and 3-4GB. The rest is pretty standard : Usually 320+GB, wifi b/g/n, maybe bluetooth, HDMI out, DVD RW drive, headphone and mic in, webcam, 1366 x 768 15'' displays... And some of it down to personal preference, so worth getting a look up close in a local store for quality, fit and comfort. Acers and HPs (G62 and al.) are ok buys, and really cheap. HDMI is a useful feature, hard drives don't come under 320GB, but a 7,200 rpm drive will be faster, however unlikely to find one on a bargain.

3GB RAM, 250GB HDD
DVD-Super Multi DL drive
6-cell Li-ion battery
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
