Mansize_tissue said:Personally, i'd get the NEC. I mean, it's worth getting a descent monitor because it's likely to be one of the longest living components in your system. So, seeing as it isn't likely to be upgraded as often, you might as well get a good one!
For software/web development I find the extra 150 lines on a 1600x1200 vs. 1680x1050 makes a big difference when editing source code. For games the widescreen aspect ratio probably does lend itself to a more "cinematic" experience though.Richdog said:Why on earth would you get a monitor that wasnt widescreen nowadays...![]()

Realise that, was just responding to your comment about why anyone would want 4:3 these days, so I offered a reason.Richdog said:The OP is clearly a gamer though, hence his 8800GTX.![]()
Richdog said:OP, get a good 20.1", trust me you won't regret it, especially if its the NEC. The Dell 2007WFP would be a great second option, my dad has one and it looks the business.![]()
Mansize_tissue said:I know initially i had suggesting getting a 20" monitor, namely the NEC 20WGX2, like the other guys but, after seeing a 22" in store, man they're big! I think i might ditch the 20WGX2 i was planning on getting for a w2207; it's just, i'll be sacrificing a lot in terms of viewing angles and, possibly, sharpness due to the increased pixel pitch, right?
Richdog said:Yeah, they use vastly inferior panels.
Mansize_tissue said:This wouldn't make the picture any less sharp, though, would it?

do you mean 22inch screens (TN in the main) have less to offer in sharpness and clarity in contract to an IPS panel like the dell 2007wfp?
Richdog said:A TN panel pales in comparison with an AS-IPS panel... they are simply the creme de la creme for gamers. I had a 22" TN panel next to my NEC and it was pretty shocking imo.

The decision between the w2207 and 20WGX2 is really bugging me. Will the difference be that noticable whilst gaming? Although, at first, i was pretty much set on getting the NEC monitor because of all the goodness it has to offer (and the smaller pixel pitch), but after seeing the 22" HP my mind has been split.
The 22"ers are all TN. As for sharpness the pixels on a 22" are bigger so you would notice a little more pixelation. I think IPS are just better anyway though, on the TN screens I've owned you had to use ClearType to be able to read text, whereas I don't on my 2007WFP.fraseredwards said:is this a generalisation?

fish99 said:The viewing angles are the big problem with TN though - the vertical viewing angles are such that even with your head still, a single colour background will form a noticeable gradient form top to bottom of your screen. For instance on the blue background used in these forums, on a TN you can see it's darker (if I'm remember it the right way round) at the top of the page than at the bottom. Move you head up an inch and the bottom of the screen starts going pale. Not nice.
