please recommend an alternative to setting a restore point

...As title: I cannot get windows 7 to load a previous restore point no matter what mode I choose, so can anybody recommend a fast and reliable alternative? Thanks

What error do you get? Anti-virus can stop it from restoring.

Windows restore has worked fine when I have had to use it and deem it very reliable. I usually keep at least three recent points just in case one doesn't work. Suggest something else is up or just unlucky this time you need to use it.

An alternative is something like Acronis to backup the entire partition but requires a lot of extra drive space if you currently have everything in one place - so keep the windows partition small would be the best way to implement a Windows partitiion backup solution.

It will save a restore point but won't let me use it. I will be a bit more specific later when I get in.

AOMEI Backupper Standard. Although freeware it allows incremental backup, file/folder backup, locked file backup, system and scheduling so it can be used as an alternative to System Restore.

Always have restore turned off i just use make image within windows every now and then
