Please recommend car for my girlfriend

No one really explain why the C1/Aygo/107 cars are so bad.

One of my friends has a Aygo, its slow, tiny, loud and generally rubbish but she loves it.

For a girls first car with plastic bumpers and what not its fine but not £5k fine!!!

I wouldn't know what to suggest, but AVOID the C1/Aygo/107 tbqfh.

Focus - Way too big for her
C1/Aygo/107 - Why is this so bad? Are they not reliable?

As for getting a car with the £2k, she did buy a Fiat Seicento 2001 for £1,300 and has had nothing but problems with it. It's gone now, and she got the same money back, so no issues. However it cost her a lot in repairs and stuff so she wants to spend a bit extra to get something newer and more reliable.

Basically she doesn't want to be spending out £100 here or there to keep it running.

For about £2k she would be looking at a Fiesta from about 2001. How much more reliable is this going to be over the Seicento she did have?

Are you a 24 year old girl who wants a small car up to 3-4 years old?

A Focus is hardly a big car. Same Size as the new Fiesta in fact. I bet she would have one of these if it was in budget? (Or similar car with styling she likes that's the same sort of size). If you looked at my whole post I was agreeing that it is stupid getting a loan on a small run around. As for reliability my Focus hasn't missed a beat.

After wasting 2 months of my life looking for a nice 2001-ish Focus, I gave up. The only one I would buy is my fathers, which he won't let me have. Foci aren't owned by people who look after cars well, so after 9 years of abuse they look tired and ratty. I don't blame someone for wanting to spend more money on something newer.

Owners clubs? I've seen several for sale on FFOC and I know my 2001 is pretty much worthless, but is still well looked after. There must be others around looking to sell in similar position? I admit, they may be rare though.

The little Aygo/C1/107 go through clutches very quickly don't they?
Plus, they're nasty little things too :p

I would recommend the Fiat Panda if you want to keep it relatively new.

The Aygo/107/C1 were designed from the ground up to be really really cheap. Some of the more obvious cost cutting features are things like only having one gas strut to hold the rear hatch up instead of two like most cars have.

Do you really want her to buy a car where the principle design goal was cost saving, as opposed to reliability, fun or simply not being a nasty little tin can on wheels. Especially when 5 grand isn't really all that cheap.

There's plenty of good small cars out there, most of which have already been mentioned. Yaris, Panda, Fiesta, Micra etc.

Ka's are on a par if not worse than the C1 family. :(

Yep. I've had a Ka to potter about in since last Thursday. Sheer comedy handling and total lack of anything except electric windows is pretty apalling. Even with all the trimmings, it'd still be an utterly dire vehicle.

C3 pluriel.

Why care about anything like driving dynamics, build quality and speed when the woman can show off all the funky roof arrangements.

Actually, she won't be able to show them off as she won't be able to change them herself.
