Installed windows 7 about 3hrs ago and to be perfectly honest, I really don't see the point in it.

Reasons:

It will not work with my VisionPlus TV card which worked without fault with vista - even with latest drivers
- Windows mail has gone...why? I liked it
- Wmp12 does not have that mini toolbar like wmp11 had which was very useful.
- I don't like this new toolbar arrangement, could be a way to change this but stil annoying.

But the thing which is really really annoying me at the moment is after restarting and exploring all the tools I just don't find it any faster at all, startup is no faster for sure and it just seems pretty much the same as Vista.

As far as i'm concerned nothing has really been changed, ms just wanted to rename Vista (which was rubbish to begin with, but became stable and very fast after many updates, but had picked up a rubbish reputation) and sell it with the updates and a new name.

I just feel cheated out of £150...

Not many people on here will agree and i'm likely to be slated here but I wanted to speak my mind :(

Windows Mail hasn't gone, it's just available as Windows Live Mail download as part of the new Live suite.

The toolbar arrangement is in the same league as the Awesomebar for Firefox 3 - to start with you'll hate it, but after a while you'll begin to realise how good it is.

If you're not noticing a far bit of a performance increase then I'd ensure your drivers are up to date and that everything is configured correctly. About the only thing faster on my rig to boot is a totally blank XP install, which is hardly a representative comparison.

I'd also like to point out that it's not W7 not working with your TV card, it's your TV card not working with W7.

I agree, I have Win7 ready to install but my Vista Install works flawlessly, just how I like it! There is no feature that is really making me want to trash my Vista install and change to Windows 7. It does just seem like rebadged Vista to get away from the reputation.

XP -> Vista was a really nice fresh change.

Vista -> Win7 doesnt have the same effect.

my 2 pennies :-)

Im dual booting both, vista Business & W7 ultimate. But using vista 99% of the time.
Vista works, ive had zero probs with it & W7 doesn't really offer much difference and so, i cant be arsed to set it up at the mo :p
Only reason i have W7 is because it was free & i certainly wouldn't of paid £150 for it if i was happy with vista :)

You spent 150 on a OS you didn't try before hand?

Seriously mate...

I tried the RC on my netbook a while ago, but was quite buggy so never got a proper look. I just bought it based on reviews really, was happy with Vista but reviews were saying how much better it was.... I was also planning on doing MCTS' at some point and so would need to know it quite well; and anyway, I like to stay up to date.

I don't really dislike it, just apart from a few very useful tools I don't think its any different.

If you already have Vista then there is no need to rush out and upgrade to Windows 7. Windows 7 is MS's [successful I think] attempt to put right all the things missing/broken/bad with Vista.

If you are looking for something radically different from Vista then you will be dissapointed. However, Windows 7 has had lots of tweaks and bits fiddled with that makes it a much better OS overall - not just fancy new features and new taskbar, but perhaps not enough of an overt difference to make it worth upgrading from Vista. Vista isn't bad [anymore] it's just annoying.

I have run Vista and Windows 7 on the same laptop and Win 7 runs much better overall. Windows 7 runs better than XP period.

Had 7 Ultimate 64 bit for a week, upgraded from xp / 7rc dual boot
must say im totally loving it ..
So much faster and after a few tweeks have all my apps / games working fine :p

3rd party drivers you'll have to wait for - which is pretty much goes without saying with a new OS.

Windows 7 is pretty much Windows Vista R2; it was never going to be a giant leap. However it is more efficient and uses less RAM (although that wouldn't make much difference on your computer) and in my opinion the interface is a lot better.

I'd definitely give it a few days if not weeks. 3 hours to form an opinion is not really long enough.

Windows 7 ultimate with vista dual boot
I use windows 7 for almost eveyrthing, the rare occasion something definitely doesnt work i switch to vista

So far that is limited to BF2 (i have a EA download copy which seems to refuse to install on W7 properly, cd key errors etc..)

i had vista when it first came out, in halflife 2, the first nvida drivers, you got as much as 3 fps!

that improved in 1 week to 30 fps, after a month, was almost normal

just give it time, i have found win7 boots faster, runs faster, shuts down faster

its the same old story every release from MS, long time ago, a mate said he would NEVER use XP, as he wanted to be in "control" and win98 was the way forward

Wouldn't feel cheated out of £150 if you had pre ordered or if you hadn't wasted money buying Ultimate since I doubt very much you need any of the features that are exclusive to Ultimate.

Because I am planning on doing Microsoft MCTS' at some point in the future, I would need to know all features (like connecting to domains and bitlocker etc), so I bought ultimate.

If I had gone from vista to W7 maybe it would not have seemed so good. From xp to Win7 is quite an improvement.
Wouldn't have paid £150 for it though!

Unsuually for me, I installed Windows 7 without much research other than hearing that it worked well on low-end machines. I love all aspects of it. The new features really seem useful rather than just window dressing, if you'll pardon the pun.

As for Windows Mail, you can still use the old Vista version quite happily if you copy your old files over.
