Please remind me why Windows 7 is good..

I ordered the Titan Pyro a few weeks back which came with Vista, I have to say I was really pleased with it, much better than XP. I recieved my Win7 upgrade disc yesterday and installed it last night. My first impressions are that it isn't really much different to Vista apart from the fact that it takes longer to boot up and shut down now.

I'm dual booting a Vista Ultimate 32bit drive and a Win7 Pro 64bit drive. Have to say i find the Win7 drive quicker to boot, smoother all round workings, love the new task bar and setting up a home network was far easier and quicker than it was in Vista.

Basiaclly i'm finding W7 far more responsive and an all round better experience than Vista, and I'm a firm Vista fan as it's run flawlessly for the 2 1/2 years i've had it installed on my main gaming rig.

sounds like user error to me, ever heard of the beta that has been around for months! you just dive in and install it and moan because you can't use it - drrrrrrrrr

It's a good OS but if you were happy with Vista there's no need to upgrade. People rave about the taskbar but personally I prefer the traditional one.

Yes the interface is MUCH better.

Jumplists and pinned items are the greatest addition to Windows since the start menu itself on Windows 95.

Also WMP12 can be run in classic mode.

CTRL+2.

And in the thumbnail taskbar preview you still get player controls.

well i fail to see how it can be slower to boot, i have tested it and installed on countless computers at work, improved all of them. i suggest a bios flash, and make sure it has the drivers and setup is correct

It isn't massively slower but it was the first thing I noticed. As far as I'm aware everything is working correctly, I've had no problems running anything that I've tried so far. I did a search on Google earlier on about it and did come up with a few articles where they are saying it is slower to boot despite what was claimed and the boot times they are quoting is withing 10 seconds of mine (mine is actually 10 seconds faster at 1:20 from the moment I press the power button until I can use an application).

ditto.

It also boots faster and just feels sharper.

yes it's an R2 release of Vista but i'm glad i updated. Far more drivers available for x64 than there was with Vista on release.

Also i had ran Vista for a week with my SSD which speeded things up but with win7 they seem made for each other.

Even the not so tech savy Mrs thinks it's much faster. She can't grasp where the internet shortcut goes if you close a seperate IE window though :D

Be completely mad/crazy to pay out £150 on a OEM copy......

Next motherboard upgrade you be throwing that £150 64bit Ultimate OEM copy in the bin ;)

Nope... you just can't do it online, ring up talk to the machine takes no more than 10mins, and is free, and saves me £20 :)

I got Win7 on one of my machines upstairs. Im still on Vista64 on my main Machine here.

IMO Win7 is nothing more than tarted up Vista!

Sure its got all teh rubbish of vista taken out, but then the rubbish in Vista was cured with SPx anyway, kind of making Win7 a little bit more hyped up as usual.

Im trying to justify buying my copy of Win7 and I am failing.

It seems that all they have done, is move around the configuuration settings so you have to go looking for them again, to make you think you have a new O/S but when you dig down deep... Its vista with a re-spray nothing more.

Early betas however... They showed promise, but when it boiled down to the released crud we ended up with, its just another O/S that people are raving o nabotu to justify buying it when it no better than XP ... again!

I've found Windows 7 to be a very welcome upgrade from Vista, although I had very little problem with Vista apart from the amount of resources it used up, particularly battery life on my laptop. I stuck with it, and loved it.

I got Windows 7, along with my sister and we both love it. We both think the new task bar is a really good idea, and integrates really nice and smoothly with Windows and all the programs.

My sister has never used Vista, so she made the jump from XP, and she said it feels a lot quicker, and it looks fantastic.

I've had Vista on my laptop and did a clean installation - boy am I impressed! Boot times are 100% faster, and the amount of resources it uses is back down to an "acceptable level". It's given me an extra hours battery life over Vista, so I get nearly 5 hours (wireless off), 4 hours (wireless on) respectively - which is a fantastic improvement.

I cannot see myself going back to Vista, although I did like it - just a little to heavy for my liking, but still a fantastic operating system. Windows 7 is amazing, so clean, polished and it actually feels finished - not like a DIY job - always a few bits left over at the end.

My girlfriend said she hated Windows 7. I said spend some time using it, low-and-behold, an hour later she says she actually quite likes it - so that's another copy that needs ordering.

I've not had any experience with upgrading an install, I never recommend it to anybody, but clean installs work perfectly - nearly all my hardware was recognised straight up, with the exception of a few older pieces of hardware - an amazing improvement!
