Please settle a dispute....

Hi,

My friend and I have both bought brand new graphics cards. We were both on a budget, so couldn't spend much. (The wives.....) He went out and bought a Sapphire X1600 256Mb AGP and I bought a GeForce 7600 256Mb AGP.

Which of these cards is the best? His cost £60.00 and mine retails at £69.99.

I hope you can settle this once and for all!

Both sound like they are vanilla versions of the pro and GT respectively nad I would be extremely tempted to say the 7600 is the best of the two! I havent check benchmarks etc so hopefully someone can confirm this

7600 wins - but I'm not sure how the 7600GS compares to the 7600 AGP version

Just been looking at that Toms Hardware. 7600 definatley out performs the X1600 anyday.

Yeah absolute pants, even gets whooped of the old 6600 GT, 7600 is miles better.

agreed, my clueless friend decieded to go x1600xt XFIRE It was the most pants performance of £200 I have ever seen in my life

Not necessarily. The x1600xt when it came out was actually a pretty decent card. The x1600xt/1650XT were the two cards in that range that were considered with some level of respect.

Xfire X1600XT for £200 aint actually too bad, especially if he bought it before the x1900s became a lot cheaper.

7600 series are great and will continue to sell one. Its just such a well designed card.

In XFIRE he normally got about a 10% increase in frames over his single card in games (fresh install latest drivers ect). The single card was owned by the similary priced 7600gt and as previously stated for £200 at the time he could have got a x1900xt 512mb card (this is what I advised him to get but he wanted to use his 'sli beatin' xpress200 chipset to its full potential ).

ALSO he sold his 6800gs to get that set up and in real games his frames were lower with the x1600xt XFIRE

Not really having a laugh, as the x1900 prices fluctuated a lot, and I seemed to remember the x1600 prices dropping before the x1900. In comparison to the x1900, its not great, but as a cheap way to try Xfire it could have been worse. If the x1900s were going cheap by then however its another story.

on the ati side of the fence...yes but on Nvidia side the 7600gt priced the same as the xt was faster than both those cards. Leaving 7900gs priced a tad more than x1650xt but was far superior.
