I do a fair amount of work for my wife's shop . . .

1 off flyers
pricelists
special events leaflets & pdf's (for e.mail campaigns)
logo and artwork designs
adverts

etc

Not full-time and I currently utilise MS word and the results are fab - but I need to get even more professional results and something thats more user-friendly!

Any ideas please?

Examples . . .

They are both possible with Publisher - could throw in Adobe Acrobat to make the .pdf's too. If you want to make really high detail logos then pickup a second hand copy of Photoshop CS1/CS2 to play around with.

that doesn't usually go together in graphics in my view.

Publisher would work until you want to do more than a couple of prints (not many printers have this), quark and adobe indesign are probably too steep a learning curve for user friendly.

I suppose serif software may do what you're after.

Although depending on how much you're prepared to spend I would say get a mac, say a mac mini, plus a keyboard/mouse/monitor switch and iWork - pages would be perfect for what you want to do in my opinion.
