A nasty looking minefield
Hello all. My new components are coming in the post (Read cpu and ram)

At the moment the bootup is picking my seagate 320gb sata2 barracuda up as an IDE 133. I have definitly noticed it being very slow and seeking all the time.

Therefore I wish to get it all set up properly when I reinstall.

:D

Please could you give me a guide. Im on an eVGA 680i motherboard.

P.s I have nearly every game from STEAM downloaded. Is there any way I can save these so I dont have to reinstall all over again?

Thanks a lot pro's ;)

you say you have new cpu and ram coming. but not if you have a new hard drive ???

if you do have a new hard drive, you have two options

1) replace old HD with new one , and copy all the data across

2) keep both HD's and install the new one either as a second drive or as the first drive and put windows on it.

your other point about detecting boot options and hard drive set up would be done in the BIOS.... when you boot you need to hit the key on the keyboard to go in to the BIOS (usually del or F1)

once in there you can have alook for boot devices/hard drive set ups etc

Yes by keeping the entire Steam folder ;)

After you reinstall windows just click on the Steam.exe in the folder and it will work without reinstalling, don't need to redownload all your games too.
