Plex Media Server can't load media

This sounds like a very simple cli tweak on the nas would fix this? chown probably but would need the path to the folders.

How does Plex install? Is it an app or a docker? It could be you haven’t slowed it permission to aced the files/share/folder

If you are Mac exclusive then just use infuse if you’re ok 79p a month.
I am now using infuse, thanks for the suggestion. This is much better, it relieves my lowly celeron of server duty on the NAS, my Apple TV 4K handles playback much better.

Out of interest, has anyone here had a problem with Plex permissions failing to stick, and reverting to ‘local user’ from ‘system internal user’.

Are you not still using Plex as a backend? Or have you just pointed Infuse to the folders on your NAS? Infuse is very good btw. So good I bought a lifetime sub

I couldn’t use Plex if I wanted to, it refused to hold a ‘system internal user’ in the permissions section.

This happened after I did a clean install of Plex on ny NAS. I was running low on space, and changed from RAID 1 to RAID 0. I had two solid days trying to fix it.

I use plex on a synology nas. I'll have a look at my setup in the week.

Although I’ve moved on to infuse I would still like find out why a clean install of Plex will not hold a system ‘internal user’ if bloodline76 is still willing.

But don’t screw your installation up though.

Just took a look at mine and my "PlexMediaServer" folder has an "AppData" folder. I created a user with read&write permissions and changed ownership of "AppData" folder to the new user I made. I'm on DSM 7.2.2 DS420+. My install is old though and I don't know anything about this internal user stuff so maybe my setup is irrelevant to yours but what I did was follow a well known workaround at the time. Still works though.

Thanks for looking, I think I’ll forget Plex. It has changed since I bought a lifetime pass years ago, it seems more like an aggregator now, rather than the simple means of playing my own media. Thanks again.

Infuse is so good been using it for years on all my Mac/iOS stuff. I use the downloader for stuff I take travelling unless you can sort out external access. The only thing stopping me buying lifetime is cost and fear it will cease to exist.
