Hi all,
First build for a couple of years and so I am a bit out of date. I plan to do some moderate overclocking and will use it mainly for fps. I would be grateful for any feedback. I like the idea of the solid state drive for the OS but am not 100% sure.

there is no point in a SSD, as their performance isnt worth their price in my opinion, you could add another Samsung SpinPoint F1 750GB SATA as a backup drive or for raid 0 for less.
have you considered the OCUK 8800GTX, its a lot less and you may be able to overclock it to the BFG speeds.

I agree with ^jak731^. get yourself a cheaper h/d and bump in 12 months when prices get mainstream - if you really, really have to.

otherwise, very nice spec.

Ok, I have gone for the ocuk 8800 gtx and dumped the ssd which brings down the price quite a lot.

Should I save the additional £300 or is there anything else that it would be worth spending it on to further improve performance. (I am not interested in SLI)?

Thanks

the samsung f1 is not the next gen 333gb per platter one...go for the 1tb samsung if you feel like splashing out or more 500Gb models for same price.

I thought both the 750gb and 1tb samsung drivers have the 333gb per platter but the 750gb has the final platter restricted/reduced.

I could well be wrong though :o

The 750GB model has 3x 250GB platters and not the quicker, 333GB ones! (funnily enough, 333 doesn't go into 750 :P)

Thanks

you missed out an optical drive.

whats your main use, just gaming, do you need tons of storage for films/ tv shows/ games etc? mabye a TV card?

if you are overclocking i dont know about the cooler on the GTX, but an aftermarket 1 will be handy. also do you like neons/uv etc, mabye some case modding would suit you?

and for the Razer Lachesis, IMHO, it doesnt look good on pictures, shape doesnt look right, and ive heard from few people that it sucks basically. im using the G7

More or less *** i have just recived other than diff case/monitor

Very good system got my up at 3GHZ at stock volts bios report 1.18 volts...

Can play crisis on very high but to increase performace i have 2 of the sliders on high. Thats in 64bit vista.

Have fun!

PS - the abit boards boot then turn off then come back on! & i ordered the 620 corsair PSU as the 520 was out of stock.

All good though :)

Dont be fooled by this as i was - spent ages thinking it was shorting out!

The IP35 Pro doesn't have the dual-boot issues the non-pro versions suffer from - and I think (not 100%), there's a bios update to either reduce it or fix it entirely.

Ok, thanks for the comments.
I have added an optical drive, changed the mouse (I was looking for a G7 but no-one seems to sell them) and have gone for the G9. Have also dropped the card reader as I didn't realise the monitor came had one.
The whole gts vs gtx question is confusing the hell out of me (and a lot of others!) I am now swinging back towards the gts on the basis of lower power consumption, noise and the hope that as drivers improve it's performance may increase too.
