I purchased an item off ebay which has a US plug so needs converting with a travel adapter or something.

I bought this but the the prongs don't fit into the plug - any help much appreciated.

The trouble is America use 110v not 240v, so it probably isn't just as simple as using a plug adaptor. What's are you trying to plug in and does it have any information on it about what input voltage it requires(some devices will accept both 110 and 240 but you MUST confirm this, don't just plug it in and hope)?

It looks like it should fit but the easiest solution would just be to replace it with a BS head.

Also, as mentioned above make sure it's capable of accepting 240V or else things will go bang.

it does accept 240v, so I got this adapter after reviews said people used it for things like their mac book pro import etc. amongst various other electrical devices. The thing is the prongs just will not fit into the bloody thing so I'm wondering what the heck is wrong.

As the others have mentioned does it auto select the voltage?

If not you will need a step down transformer.

Edit: seen your reply above.

It almost certainly will Just push hard. The spring covers are very tough. Many things except 240 as they have have both 110 and 240 out there.

Hard to say from the photo, but it does look like a US plug and US style socket adaptor, do the prongs just not line up with the slots?

the prongs line up they just won't go in even if I put a considerable amount of force - as much force as I feel safe with before breaking the prongs. May be a faulty plug?

I've just found another adapter that looks like it would be more befitting ... straighter sockets...
