I have to move rooms in my house. However this new room only has one double wall plug socket. Are these just one plug split into two? And how many appliances can I run off these two plugs. Will two four way extensions be okay.

I have

1 350 watt PC
1 21 inch CRT Monitor (100 watts?)
1 50 watt Hi Fi Amp
1 60 watt lamp
1 digital clock radio (5 watts?)
1 TV signal amplifier (20 watts?)
1 air purifier (36 watts)
1 fan (20 watts?)

These I usually run all at once. Is this safe?

The fan only really gets used in the summer obviously. But I suffer very badly from all manner of allergies, so the purifier is on constantly. Okay?

are you homebound?

Wimp. In one socket I have three computers, their three monitors, a laser printer, an Anglepoise lamp and a shaver charger. If it all draws less than 3kW then you are fine.

Cheers. Significantly under 3kw.

And I'm not a wimp :) I had a hoover explode on me once when I plugged it in. I also got thrown across the room by a live wire from a TV. Electricity gives me the fear, needs respect.

It filters smoke, dust, dead dust mite crap, etc. Plus ionises the air. It basically completely replaces / circulates the air in my room every hour.

Some think they're rubbish and benefits are all your head, but it definitely reduces the stench of smoke that drifts into my room from the smokers in the house. Weed smoke sends me haywire and I found that it does help - along with anti histamines of course.

I have two wall sockets so i'm using two 4 branch extention sockets. That allows me to use?

1x pc
1x monitor
1x speakers
1x external hard drive
1x xbox 360
1x quick charge unit for xbox
1x Papper shredder
1x Printer

The number of appliances is not important; it's the power they use that is.

You need to check the total power of all the appliances you intend to route through one of the sockets. If that's under 3Kw you should be ok. Much more than 3Kw and you're likely to blow the 13amp fuse in the plug which you put into the wall socket.

I think that answer's correct. But I'm prepared to be overruled.

I used ot know someone who was alergic to dust, her room was bare as a bare thing could be and she had a purifier in the summer months. every year summer would be a pain for her :/

You really are quite sour all the time aren't you?

no, you just read far too much into a post that doesn't have 5 smileys on it or a link to a youtube video.
again, thanks for noticing my posting style and any change that has occurred in the last few months.
I have noticed someone else who's posting seems to have changed, I haven't posted multiple times to tell them about it though.

my posting style clearly annoys you, there is 2 ways to solve this, 1) i change my style and 2) you ignore me.

sorry for OT banja!

It'll be more then 3KW total, each socket will have a max draw of 13A @ 240V, but it's likely that there are two sockets on the main ring which will have a 32A RCD. So he'll be able to max draw 26A depending on the usage of the other sockets on the ring.

And I severly doubt you'll be able to draw that amount of current.

Your figures are about right, or even a bit on the conservative side. I would say all that would draw about 350 to 400 watts. You are generally safe upto 13amps which is about 2.7kw minimum so you are well safe.

Thanks guys. I learned something :)

Now as a thank you, here is my tip for how to make perfect pancakes.

Put the flour in the bowl, then add the milk and mix that well BEFORE you add the eggs. The batter gets really smooth and not (as) lumpy if you do it this way.
