...where basically my XP OS stopped boothing after a disc clean. Before attempting XP repair, I just want to make sure I back up my personal data only. So I bought a HD enclosure, popped the hd in it and connected it to my parents computer (XP too) with the aim to copy my data over first.
However, I can see the folders and the files, but XP will not let me open anything or copy them over, which makes sense in a security point of view (stolen laptop etc).
How can I get around this? Obviously, my original account in XP was password protected and I assume this is why it's protected?
Is there somewhere I can pop my password in to give me full access? Any links on the net on how to do that would be very very much appreciated.
If it's any help, I get exactly the same if I try connecting the hd onto my bro's PC with Vista - files are visible but cannot be copied or viewed.
Ideally I don't want to mess with settings so that when I do the XP repair, permissions and access to the flders and files don't give me issues.
Alternatively, is it possible to boot onto that hard drive from another PC and me logging on as usual, or if that not possible in case XP is buggerred on there anyway? I imagine there are all sorts of driver and hardware issues too.
Thanks in advance.
