Plumbers please Glowworm 18sx Question

Cheers, I'll check it in the morning, it doesn't seem to actually be dropping to zero. It's been okay during today. Does the fact that it's not doing anything overnight and then during the day (after I've "fixed" it) it is being turned on and off by the timer?

Is the pressure dropping at all? Might just be a tiny leak on a radiator valve for example, and it's gradually losing pressure to the point where the boiler switches itself off. If it doesn't lose pressure then you shouldn't be needing to top it up with the filling loop, that's what I don't understand!

ive been to a few glows and our company dropped them as a affilate because of the call outs we kept getting, certain lines and models are a bit dodgey and the engineers @ glow wernt v.helpful :( but call up glow and get one out cuz it ull cost as much as to ring loads of gas ppl and them to come out and fix it and they could prob let you in on some stuff :D

i remember f9 being a pain, thought of it being blocked heat exchangers, pressure vess. checked the pcb :( the glow lads said different things every time, im sorry but all i can say is ask father christmas for a worcester 28i, brilliant :D

There's worse boilers out there to be honest though. Rather a Glowworm than a Linea/Ariston piece of rubbish.

The main problem on all of this series of Glowworm (and even Vaillant use the same burner, fan and zero governor) is the damned burner door seal. The one in that photo I posted was visibly blowing steam out of the burner into the case! Changed it for the uprated graphite seal (and nyloc nuts) and all was good.

No, the pressure isn't dropping, but the only thing that seems to work to get it firing back up is to fill it with that tapped pipe. So I guess gradually over time the pressure has just got more and more until it was up to 2.2 bar

It's been off today until the timer kicked in around 1/2 an hour ago with the pressure at 1 bar and it seems to be okay so far. I just noticed that one of the radiators was cold so have bled a load of air out of it aswell.

sorry about going off topic a bit, just spoke to a service lad at the pub and he said that some glows only fire with the 2.5 bar.

Yeah... that pub advise is rubbish I'm affraid

Most sealed system boilers with digital water pressure sensors will allow the boiler to run down to a pressure of 0.5bar.

Normal running pressure is 1.0-1.5bar. This is with the boiler turned OFF & COLD..

Picture you posted looks like an 'si' not a 'sxi'

OP would appear to have a 'Flexicom 18si' which is considerably different inside..

But even so, regardless of what type, or what internals your boiler has/hasnt, you seem to have aproblem that needs sorting by someone suitably qualified. If your affraid of the local guys and their knowledge then get a Glowworm chap out..

Mick

PS. Hope that picture was from a 'work in progress', seems to be missing a combustion chamber securing nut and a gas inlet retaing clip...;-)

It was an sxi I was working on. Yes it was a work in progress, the burner seal had gone (the old silicon type) and I only decided to take a photo when I'd already started. I had it on with the case off (as you see it in the photo) and you could actually see the steam coming out! Replaced with the new updated seal :) . The earth lead to the sensing probe is also disconnected and the ignition lead was only placed on for the photo ;) .

Guys, just a quick update and thanks to Stormer and Flyingfish. I got the pressure down to to 0.9/1.0 bar and it has been working perfectly ever since :)
